'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' Trailer Brings Magic In The Lair
The two-night series premiere will top off Disney Channel’s Monstober Halloween event on October 29 and 30
Disney Channel’s starting to look a little different as they go through a visual rebrand this fall, but they’re also bringing back familiar faces. Their Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premieres at the end of Monstober (yes, the Monstober branding is back instead of Calling All the Monsters), and Tuesday saw them release the series trailer on their YouTube channel as well as Disney+’s, which will drop seven new episodes the day that episodes three and four linearly…which is next-day.
As the synopsis goes, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place sees the return of David Henrie’s Justin Russo, now with his wife Giada, played by Mimi Gianapulos and sons Roman, played by Alkaio Thiele, and Milo, played by Max Matenko, who he has chosen to give a normal, magic-free life, make up most of the main cast. Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo, his sister, brings Billie, played by Janice LeAnn Brown, to his home seeking help. It forces Justin out of retirement to mentor her wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities, and taking on safeguarding the future of the Wizard World again, because apparently Billie is a major part of that. The trailer finally lets viewers see exactly how it all goes down, and it turns out not to be on some dark and stormy night as I imagined it, but a normal sunny day with a rather joyful surprise rather than a dramatic emergency. Before Billie can undertake saving the wizard world, she needs a more experienced wizard to show her what it takes, and a family who won’t give up on her when she stumbles. “You’re a powerful wizard. Some people see that as a threat,” Justin tells Billie. “But I promise, I’m not gonna let anything happen to you.” The lair situation as to its location is still a little unclear.
Taylor Cora also stars as Billie’s friend Winter, and So far the only confirmed guest star is David DeLuise as Jerry Russo, Justin and Alex’s father, reprising his role from the original series. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas write and executive produce Wizards Beyond Waverly Place with Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Gomez, and Henrie. Andy Fickman who directed and executive produced the pilot will direct multiple episodes, with other directors confirmed including Danielle Fishel and Raven-Symoné. The series premieres on Disney Channel on October 29 at 8 PM with 2 episodes, and will air two more episodes on October 30, including a Halloween episode. Those four episodes and four more will be available on Disney+ that day.
Check out the trailer below, which was the first to bear the visuals of the channel rebrand, which extends to the YouTube avatar and banner.
