Zack, Cody, Your Gigi’s Reservation Is Ready
Well they never actually secured it, but still it’s the thought that counts
Dates in TV shows can be a funny thing. They can be used to mark fandom celebrations of anniversaries, like Digimon’s Odaiba Day being August 1, the day Adventure began and seven kids wound up in a digital land. Or all the hubbub surrounding October 21, 2015, the future day Back to the Future Part II partially took place on that it became Back to the Future Day. But there’s a whole generation of kids who grew up on what will historically be peak Disney Channel, general popularity and ratings-wise. Today happens to be one of those special days for the crowd, and the anticipation has gone so viral on social media, it’s hit Disney Channel’s as well.
In the The Suite Life on Deck episode “When In Rome…”, which aired on January 23, 2009 the S.S. Tipton has docked in Italy, specifically, well, Rome, duh. was London Tipton, played by Brenda Song, falls in love with a grifter named Luca. But that’s not what we’re here for. Cody Martin, played by Cole Sprouse, has his sights set on Gigi’s, the best and most prestigious restaurant in all of Italy apparently. He tells his twin brother Zack who’s tagged along that Gigi is “the Michelangelo of manicotti”. They try to book a reservation with Chef Gigi herself, played by Sandra Purpuro. However they’re so booked that their next opening isn’t until 7:30 PM…on November 16, 2023. The set doesn’t lend well to the prestige or the busyness, but not much you could do now. Cody is aghast. That’s not for 15 years! Presumably the November 2008 implication (it could’ve been more than 15 exactly but less than 16) was a filming date. But they don’t actually book the reservation and it seems that’s being overlooked to keep the fun up. They are actually dismissed, but soon, Mr. Moseby, the boat’s manager played by Phill Lewis, shows up for his reservation. When the twins try to latch onto it, they’re thrown out.
Being a chef with supposedly high standards, she frequently fires her workers, and Zack and Cody happen to be nearby at the latest culling, and the latter impresses her enough to get hired, hoping to eat her food. Except they have to survive the night to get the meal. The A & B plots do intersect, as Moseby and Bailey (Cody’s eventual girlfriend) try to get one over on the grifter. A star on a plaque falls into the tomato sauce, Cody dives in, getting him out makes a mess of the kitchen, shelves are wiped and the containers spill. Cody’s fired, Zack gets the meal.
So essentially going by the plot there is no reservation and at least Zack got his meal. Fans are definitely wanting Dylan and Cole to at least make a post. They’ve even commented a few times on Purpuro’s once-used Instagram. Though Dylan and Cole haven’t used their Twitters since 2020 and 2021, respectively…or vice versa. You definitely get the vibes the fans are going to make their celebratory messages at 7:30 PM local time instead of Italy time, which is +6 from Eastern, +9 Pacific, ie 1:30 PM/10:30 AM. Which is why I set the publishing time for 1:25 PM Eastern in case any of my readers wanted to jump on it.
All of the Suite Life franchise, bar a dyslexia episode or a Chris Brown appearance, is streaming on Disney+. I would’ve gotten my screenshot that way if I could, but I’m not in a position to get it. It’ll be fixed someday. Enjoy the day!
