Aardman Animation Announces Pokémon Collaboration For 2027
Gather your Claydol, more stop motion Pokémon is coming…in 2+ years!
Remember how “far out!” used to mean awesome? Here’s something actually far out that promises to be awesome. The Pokémon Company is teaming up with stop-motion animation studio Aardman for what’s being billed as a “special project” to be released in 2027.
With the nature of the special project being unclear, whether film or TV series, distribution or broadcast partners are unknown. Aardman promises it will bring “their unique style of storytelling to the Pokémon universe in brand-new adventures.” A teaser was released that featured a clay Poké Ball forming itself. Shorts don’t embed, so it’s been hyperlinked. As far as the United States has been concerned, Netflix has been the home of everything long-form Aardman and Pokémon released this decade, and so has already been a speculated home. A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the upcoming Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (releasing January 3), the Pokémon Journeys and Horizons series, the movies Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution and Secrets of the Jungle, and Pokémon’s dabble in stop-motion, the Pokémon Concierge series, have all been Netflix originals and exclusives.
“This is a dream partnership for Pokémon. Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity. What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat!” said Taito Okiura, the Vice President of marketing and media at The Pokémon Company International.
Sean Clarke, managing director of Aardman, added: “It’s a huge honour to be working with The Pokémon Company International — we feel sincerely privileged to be trusted with bringing their characters and world to life in a brand-new way. Bringing together Pokémon, the world’s biggest entertainment brand, together with our love of craft, character and comedic storytelling feels incredibly exciting. Aardman and TPCi share an emphasis on heritage and attention to detail as well as putting our fans and audiences at the heart of what we do, which we know will steer us right as we together create charming, original and new stories for audiences around the world.”
