New 'Wallace & Gromit' Movie Gets Everything For Next On Netflix Event
Title, trailer, voice cast and release date? Oh you’re spoiled!
Revenge is a dish best served on clay. After being announced in 2022 and being touted as the last Aardman Animations production ever in a clay shortage scare last November, the claymation studio’s second Wallace & Gromit feature film has been fully unveiled by Netflix and the BBC.
The film is titled Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. It will run 70 minutes and feature the return of nefarious supervillain Feathers McGraw, seeking revenge for the events that transpired in 1993 short The Wrong Trousers, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Meanwhile, Gromit becomes increasingly concerned over Wallace’s dependence on his inventions. The worries are validated when Wallace’s “smart gnome” seems to develop its own dotty sentience. “As events begin to spiral out of control, it’s up to Gromit to put aside his qualms and battle sinister forces, or Wallace may never be able to invent again.” The teaser released by the BBC focused on McGraw’s release from prison, while the Next On Netflix preview had first footage of the duo.
The voice cast of course has Ben Whitehead returning as Wallace, the eccentric cheese-loving inventor, and Peter Kay back as Chief Inspector (formerly PC) Mackintosh. New cast members include Lauren Patel, who appeared in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and Reece Shearsmith. Diane Morgan, Muzz Khan, Adjoa Andoh, and legendary comedian Lenny Henry are all set for cameos.
Directed by franchise creator Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham, Park has said about the conception of the film: “I’d had the idea of a film about garden gnomes turning bad for more than a decade, but I could never work out what made them bad. It occurred to me that the single most asked question I get when I meet fans is, will… Feathers McGraw… ever return? We’ve had fun bringing him back in cameo capacities but now, three decades on, it felt like the right time. Then it hit me: What if Feathers was involved with these gnomes? We’re hoping that this film will appeal to fans of ‘Gnome Noir’ everywhere and that people will be gratified when they see what Feathers has been up to since The Wrong Trousers.” Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will premiere on Christmas Day on BBC and iPlayer (making it even moreso a TV movie over there) but all indications are that its international Netflix release will be on the 2025 side of the upcoming winter.
