Netflix Zeroes In On 'Star Trek: Prodigy' Season 2 Dal-ivery In July
We saved Prodigy, now soon we can see the fruit of our labor.
At long last, our national nightmare is over. Almost a year since Paramount+ wrote off several originals, relinquishing its title as the Home of Star Trek by unrenewing animated series Star Trek: Prodigy mere months after setting season 2 for a winter premiere, the new adventures of the former Protostar crew will finally be seen legally at its savior home of Netflix on July 1.
The date was discovered on the Coming Soon tab of the streamer’s “New and Hot” section, and some sources are holding out hope that a release model more unique than dropping all twenty episodes at once will be utilized, as Netflix has been experimenting with across their originals. It could be as simple as dropping it in halves, or some sort of parts like had been done previously. Season 1 originally aired its halves weekly on Paramount+ from October 2021 to February 2022 and October to December 2022. The first half took a holiday break while the second did not. It comes just over 6 months after both the completion of season 2 post-production and the Christmas Day Netflix arrival serving as the series relaunch. And three months after season 2’s sudden accidental, miscommunication-caused appearance on France’s Okoo FranceTV streaming platform, which seemed like a whole mess.
In confirming the news, executive producer Aaron J. Waltke tweeted “Duty. Honor. Curiosity. Wonder. Hope. Sacrifice. A coming of age. New faces and familiar. An epic through time and space. The adventure continues. You are not prepared.” Netflix will carry Prodigy in 22 other regions in addition to the United States, including the United Kingdom, Australia, India, Brazil, Argentina, France, Israel, Singapore, most European regions, and select Asian territories. Canada has Prodigy on CTV.ca and the CTV App, and the Nordics, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Central and Eastern Europe are under SkyShowtime jurisdiction.
Star Trek: Prodigy picks up with Dal, Rohk-Tak, Zero, Jankom Pog, and Murf continuing their training to join Starfleet Academy. They are called aboard a new ship for a mission under the command of Admiral (not-Hologram) Kathryn Janeway. It stars Kate Mulgrew, Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Rylee Alazraqui, Angus Imrie, Jason Mantzoukas, Dee Bradley Baker, John Noble and Jimmi Simpson in their roles.
