'Beetlejuice 2' Adds Justin Theroux And Receives 2024 Release Date
Jenna Ortega is confirmed to be co-starring with Michael Keaton, who returns as the Ghost with the Most
It’ll have taken 34 years to bring him back, but someone finally said his name a third time. Warner Bros. has set a release date for the long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel.
The studio announced that Beetlejuice 2 has been scheduled for a September 6, 2024 release. Tim Burton returns to direct, and Michael Keaton reprises his role as the mischievous ghost. Winona Ryder’s back too, as she’s sought to be for years, as Lydia Deetz. This time, she's got a daughter, and she’ll be played by Jenna Ortega, whom Burton brings over from starring on the The Addams Family series Wednesday. It’s also being reported that Justin Theroux, who’s appeared in such films as Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, The Girl on the Train, and The Spy Who Dumped Me, has been cast in the film. Like the general plot however, details for his character are unknown.
A Beetlejuice sequel has been in development since the earliest years of the franchise, a development hell that took a third round to get where we are today, when the current iteration of the sequel was announced in February 2022, with Burton initially stating he wasn’t involved but that became evidently untrue. Production is expected to begin in London today as of publishing, even with the ongoing stateside writers’ strike. If the release date sounds at all familiar, that’s because it’s currently where Marvel Studios’s Blade, which recently paused due to the aforementioned strike. Otherwise, it seems that that region of next year has not been quite laid out yet.
Theroux has most recently been seen in False Positive, the Apple TV+ series The Mosquito Coast, and the HBO limited series White House Plumbers, with Woody Harrelson which premiered May 1.
