'Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation' Is Set To Blast Off On Disney Channel This Summer
The network has officially begun promo for the movie of its current longest-running animated series
Bingo BANGO! It’s been more than two years since Big City Greens, Disney Channel’s longest-running current continuous animated series, announced its fourth season and its musical movie. While the fourth season premiered its first five episodes in the fall, things had been quiet on the movie front for quite a while, aside from mentioning at Winter TCA that it will be coming in the summer, along with announcing that series creators Chris and Shane Houghton securing an overall deal with Disney. Now the silence has been blown wide open, as the company has unveiled the movie, now known as Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation, in great detail and material.
Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation will premiere on Disney Channel on June 6 at 8 PM Eastern, with a next-day Disney+ release June 7 for the film, and for its soundtrack wherever sold by Walt Disney Records. The release of the teaser probably has everything to do with the broadcast of the second Big City Greens Classic, this year between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins on Saturday, March 9 on Disney Channel, Disney+, and Disney XD. It’s something show-related full of intrigue to advertise during the broadcast.
The synopsis describes the film as it “follows the Green family as they embark on an adventurous outer space-bound vacation. When thrill-seeker Cricket tricks his family into taking a “road trip” in space, chaos in the cosmos quickly ensues. Despite growing frustrations between Cricket and his dad, Bill, the two must learn to appreciate each other’s unique perspectives in order to prevent Big City from being destroyed by an interstellar disaster.”
Of course, the film stars all of its series regulars, consisting of series co-creator Chris Houghton as Cricket Green, Marieve Herington as his sister Tilly Green, Bob Joles as dad Bill Green, Artemis Pebdani as Gramma Alice, Wendi McLendon-Covey as mom Nancy Green, Zeno Robinson as Cricket’s best friend Remy and Anna Akana as family friend and tenant Gloria. The film features returning recurring characters including Gwendolyn Zapp voiced by Cheri Oteri, and Maria Media voiced by Raven-Symoné. New characters include Colleen Voyd voiced by Renée Elise Goldsberry, Joe Lo Truglio as a BigTech Scientist, Jack McBrayer as FarmBot, and astronaut Scott Kelly will appear as himself.
Unlike Wonka, Spacecation’s teaser makes very clear it’s a musical with an escalating number about the Green Family Vacation. Meanwhile, Nancy stumbles upon Master Control for the robots Zapp has apparently been demonstrating. We also get a glimpse of the Greens in their space suits.
From Disney Branded Television and produced by Disney Television Animation, Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation is rated TV-Y7 and also executive produced by the Houghtons, produced by Michael Coughlin. Anna O’Brian directs and Joachim Horsley is the series composer. Watch the teaser below.
