Walt Disney Animation has released the second trailer, the first full, for their upcoming centennial-celebrating animated film Wish, releasing in the United States on the traditional Thanksgiving weekend, Wednesday November 22.
In the magical kingdom of Rosas, sharp-witted idealist Asha makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force, a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront King Magnifico, who enforces his jurisdiction over the wishes his people make and turns most of them into dead ends, to save her community and prove that wondrous things can happen when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars. When Magnifico learns of Asha’s wish circumventing him, he makes her public enemy #1. Big chickens laying big eggs await.
Asha's Star Lights In Teaser Trailer For Disney's Next Animated Film 'Wish'
As promised during Walt Disney Studios’s CinemaCon presentation on Wednesday, which revealed Chris Pine as King Magnifico, the teaser trailer for Walt Disney Animation Studios’s Wish was released Thursday morning on Good Morning America. Magnifico reigns over Rosas, a wondrous land located off the Iberian Peninsula where wishes come true.
Wish’s starring voice cast has Ariana DeBose as 17-year-old protagonist Asha, Chris Pine as King Magnifico, Angelique Cabral as Queen Amaya, described as his wife and sounding board, and Alan Tudyk as Asha’s pet goat Valentino. Victor Garber voices Asha’s grandfather, Sabino, who is 100 years old and still hasn’t had his wish granted, Ramy Youssef voices the allergy-plagued Safi, Natasha Rothwell as Asha’s loving and supportive mom, Sakina, Jennifer Kumiyama as Asha’s dearest friend, Dahlia, an accomplished baker and unofficial leader of the friend group and Evan Peters as the strong but sleepy Simon. There’s also Harvey Guillén as the cynical Gabo with a heart of gold, Niko Vargas as Asha’s always-joyful buddy Hal, Della Saba as shy teen Bazeema, and Jon Rudnitsky as Asha’s rosy-cheeked, wiggly-eared friend Dario.
Upon the trailer’s release, it earned 66.5 million views across online platforms, Disney says. It surpassed April’s teaser trailer by almost 20 million views and has become the most viewed Disney trailer on TikTok to date. It is the studio’s biggest trailer since the promotional spots for Frozen 2 in 2019.
Wish is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Chris Buck, co-director of the Frozen films and Tarzan, and written by studio CCO and fellow Frozen co-director Jennifer Lee as well as Allison Moore. It features original songs by singer-songwriter Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice, with a score by composer Dave Metzger. Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones produce, while Lee serves as executive producer.
