'Dora And The Search For Sol Dorado' Premiere Headlines 25th Anniversary Festivities On Nickelodeon, Paramount+
Not only does the film starring Samantha Lorraine premiere, but a new hourlong special and the third season for the reboot
It’s been 6 years since Dora the Explorer made her teenage debut with the live action theatrical film Dora and the Lost City of Gold, and eight months since the second season of the CG reboot series Dora was released on its Paramount+ home, just a few months after season 1. I suspect splits. But it’s been 25 years since the premiere of the original Nick Jr. series that originally presented her world as a point-and-click PC game. Now both Nickelodeon and Paramount+ are ready to kick off some major celebrations on July 2, with some major releases headlined by a second live action movie, this one a TV-streaming day-and-date release, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado.
In the film, “the world’s greatest explorer and her friends will trek through the perilous dangers of the Amazonian jungle in search of the ancient treasure of Sol Dorado to prevent it from falling into enemy hands.” Samantha Lorraine, best known for her role as offending best friend Lydia Rodriguez Katz in the Netflix coming-of-age comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, takes over the role of Dora from The Last of Us and Superman star Isabela Merced, while Jacob Rodriguez takes over as Diego, Dora’s 17-year-old cousin, described as her loyal jungle-exploring partner, taking over from Jeff Wahlberg. Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias takes over as as the voice of Boots, Dora’s monkey best friend and sidekick. Their new friends include Mariana Garzón Toro as Naiya, Diego’s bold and no-nonsense coworker and Acston Luca Porto as Sonny, Naiya’s younger brother full of curiosity and boundless energy. The film also features Daniella Pineda as Camila the Crusader, a legendary archaeologist who is Dora’s childhood hero. The parents seem to be a non-factor. The film is directed by Alberto Belli, who directed Disney+ Christmas film The Naughty Nine and episodes of the no-longer-available Disney Channel series Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion. It is written by J. T. Billings, who has experience with Nickelodeon reboots as showrunner and executive producer of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? reboot, and wrote a few episodes of it. Adam Bonnett serves as an executive producer, alongside Chris Gifford and Valerie Walsh Valdes, the creators of the franchise.
Samantha Lorraine Will Be Dora The Explorer In Next Live-Action Movie
It’s Samantha Lorraine’s turn to lead the way. Fresh off the April debut of her CGI reboot series and its subsequent renewal on and by Paramount+, Dora the Explorer is ready to head back to her live action teenage years with another film.
But that’s not all! July 2 will bring the third season of the reboot series to the streamer, accompanied by an hour-long special “Dora & Diego: Rainforest Rescues”, which will seemingly introduce the reboot’s version of Diego, voiced by Kai Edgar, and his best friend Baby Jaguar, which will air same-day on Nickelodeon. The new season is another set of 26 11-minute episodes and includes a special birthday-themed episode that will seemingly hit Nickelodeon first among the rest of the season, airing on Friday, August 15, the day after the actual 25th anniversary date. There’s an implied Christmas episode as Danny Trejo, who voiced Boots in the theatrical film, will voice Santa Claus here; and Taboo, who already voices Quickatoo, brings on his daughter Jett Gomez to voice Quickatina, Quickatoo’s daughter. And like with the reboot’s first year, a second season (the fourth overall, will premiere in the same calendar year.
“The Great Dora Fiesta” includes an hour-long global cinema screening event working under the title Magic Mermaid Adventures (working title), featuring four exclusive never-before-seen episodes, of what is unclear (are there more unaired original series episodes like the ones held until the first movie premiered?) debuting in over 20 markets this fall, along with a brand-new Dora’s Mermaid Adventures podcast and accompanying YouTube series. The merchandise line is also launching…or expanding?, with toys, apparel, publishing and packaged goods, starting with multiple soundtrack and song compilations releasing this summer, and a national partnership with the Rainforest Café, giving its immersive, jungle-themed dining experience familiar IP.
The cast of Dora wasn’t reiterated in the press release, but to remind, it’s Diana Zermeño as Dora, Asher Colton Spence as Boots, Anairis Quiñones as Map and The Fiesta Trio’s Armadillo; Marc Weiner as Swiper; Mike Smith Rivera as Papi; Kathleen Herles, the original voice of Dora, as Mami, Maria Canals-Barrera as Abuela; Danny Burstein as Grumpy Old Troll and The Fiesta Trio’s Frog and Marmoset; Katarina Sky as Backpack; Donovan Monzon-Sanders as Tico; Tandi Fomukong as Isa; Quintún Muñoz as Benny; Gifford as Big Red Chicken, and Kate del Castillo as Ale the Alebrije.
'The Legend Of Aang' Delayed To October 2026, 'Mutant Mayhem' Sequel To September 2027
I guess when taking on a second animation studio for your film, it’s not exactly for cleanup. Paramount Pictures has announced Friday that due to delays in animated physical production they’re delaying the sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
