Erik Valdez Confirms His Return To 'Superman & Lois'
Valdez, an original cast member who played Kyle Cushing, is the second of the shed series regulars to confirm their involvement in the superhero series’s final season
The Beppo baby co-producer couldn’t be kept down forever. Erik Valdez, who in three seasons as Kyle Cushing on the CW series Superman & Lois went from Lana Lang’s husband to Chrissy Beppo’s fiancé, has revealed he will be returning for the show’s fourth and final season.
As previously reported, as he plays neither a Kent nor Lex Luthor, Valdez was among the series regulars affected by budget cuts that meant they weren’t going to be able to return in the same capacity. Now, he is the second of the bunch to have walked through the open door to return in at the very least a guest-starring capacity. The actor, who previously had gigs on General Hospital and Graceland, marked the occasion with his “first trailer selfie” of the season. Notably, his word choice indicated this wouldn’t be just a one-episode drop-by as he needed it to “kick off” the season. The same Instagram post featured a second slide about a personal change to his character’s wardrobe, saying “I had a chat with our wonderful costumes [department], and they agreed to let me honor my dad by wearing his signature black boots,” as it is so captioned. “Kyle’s gonna have a bit more pep in his step and maybe a few more dance moves this season.”
So far, the only other shed regular that’s already been reported to return is Dylan Walsh as Gen. Sam Lane, Lois’s father, and that’s for two episodes of Superman & Lois’s 10 for its final season. Another aspect of the budget cuts was the hit to the episode count, down a full third from the fifteen episodes the first two seasons got, and three episodes down from the thirteen it had for season three. The other pre-Nexstar survivors were afforded thirteen episodes for their seasons. The ex-regulars whose statuses are still unknown, of those expected back are Sofia Hasmik as Cushing’s pregnant fiancée Chrissy Beppo, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang, Inde Navarrette as their daughter Sarah Cortez, Wolé Parks as John Henry Irons, and Tayler Buck as Irons’s daughter Natalie Irons.
The Kents are of course Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent aka Superman, Bitsie Tulloch as Lois Lane, and Alex Garfin and Michael Bishop as their twin sons, Jordan and Jonathan, while Michael Cudlitz continues as Lex Luthor, having first appeared twice at the end of season 3. It is unknown what episode he will at least start at, but directors through episode five are known. In mid-January it was revealed that Tulloch’s husband, Grimm co-star and A Million Little Things star David Giuntoli will direct the third episode “Always My Hero”, written by Brent Fletcher and Todd Helbing, who also wrote the season premiere. It was reported early Wednesday that episode four will be directed by Gregory Smith, while the fifth will be Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Elizabeth Henstridge’s third overall. So maybe that’s where they are.
Superman & Lois is set to return for its final season this spring, so a premiere date should be announced rather soon.
