First 'Blue Beetle' Trailer Coming Today, 'Across The Spider-Verse' Gets Another Tomorrow
And Barbie isn't far behind either.
It’s time to get into what’s going to make this week crazy for trailers. Following tonight’s Secret Invasion trailer release Sunday night, Warner Bros. is getting ready to release a trailer for DC Studios’s Blue Beetle on Monday and for Barbie at some unconfirmed point in the week, while Sony has a trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ready for release on Tuesday, as all announced or reported on Sunday.
Blue Beetle has had very little marketing to this point, only a poster, so finally getting a trailer is a pretty big deal. It’s also in a peculiar position, being the last unexplored hero of the DCEU, the only 2023 release from the universe to not be a pandemic (and post-merger budget) pushback. Who knows what his chances are for making it into the new universe? The film will follow Jaime Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña, who is a teenage superhero from El Paso, Texas who becomes fused to an alien scarab and gains superpowers. The film also stars Maridueña stars alongside George Lopez, Susan Sarandon, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carillo, and Damián Alcázar, with Harvey Guillen in an undisclosed role. Directed by Angel Manuel Soto the film is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse probably needs less explanation as the sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse starring the returning Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy aka Spider-Woman or Ghost Spider. Following a first look in December 2021 and pandemic delays that brought it and its sequel to its current release circumstances, the film’s first full trailer was released in December 2022. Co-writer and producer Chris Miller teased “Something’s coming soon” with spider web emojis for o’s.
Sure enough, the related socials for the film, whether its own, the production companies, the Spider-Man brand and even Miller himself (his partner Philip Lord quote tweeted Spider-Man), a teaser for the trailer was released. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will finally be released on June 2, 2023.
And finally, reports surfaced that Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, starring Margot Robbie, whose first teaser was released the same week as Spider-Verse’s, also has a trailer imminent. That film is set to be released on July 21.
