It’s a love story baby Kong say yes
As Toho’s OG Godzilla franchise finds western/American success with its latest installment Godzilla Minus One, so much that it’s expanding its release to over 2600 theaters starting Friday, Warner Bros. is getting ready to release the next installment of their Monsterverse franchise, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, with its first full trailer before it releases in April.
The sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, Adam Wingard returns to direct this film as well, with Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Kaylee Hottle returning from that film as Dr. Illene Andrews, Bernie Hayes and Jia, respectively. According to the official synopsis, the mutant lizard and giant ape face off “against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own.” These Titans’ histories will be explored more than ever before, “their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond”, and the legendary scuffle that helped them come to be “and tied them to humankind forever." The trailer is full of emerging figures. Witness the rise.
Godzilla x Kong’s new cast members include Dan Stevens as Trapper, and Fala Chen, Alex Ferns and Rachel House in roles not yet disclosed. The film is written by Terry Rossio, Jeremy Slater and Simon Barrett, and produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Eric McLeod, Brian Rogers, Thomas Tull and John Jashni. 2023 saw the Monsterverse expand to television, with the animated series Skull Island premiering on Netflix, and the live-action Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premiering last month on Apple TV+, and is currently halfway through a 10-episode first season. Release of Godzilla x Kong is currently scheduled for April 12, 2024, with it only having been delayed a month.
