Illumination’s 'Migration' Sets Peacock Roosting Date
Illumination’s surprise hit of 2023 is heading home and streaming on Peacock in April
Guess it’s better late than never to cover Illumination’s other 2023 film, Migration, which was Universal’s family Christmas release much like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish in 2022. The film’s Twitter account announced that it will land on Peacock on April 19.
The film sees the Mallard family of ducks decide to leave the comfort of their New England pond to fly south for a winter in beautiful Jamaica only to find themselves braving the chaos and bustle of the big city. It is directed by Benjamin Renner and written by The White Lotus creator and famed Ned Schneebly Mike White, who also writes Illumination’s upcoming Despicable Me 4, from a story they concocted together. With that December 22 release date, it spends the full 120 day window that it took The Super Mario Bros. Movie last year. While not a billion-dollar maker it took flight and ended up accruing $286 million worldwide, outgrossing Disney’s Wish.
Migration stars Kumail Nanjiani as Mack, the nervous dad of the family, while Elizabeth Banks voices his wife Pam, and they have two kids, Dax and Gwen voiced by Caspar Jennings and Tresi Gazal. They are joined by Danny DeVito as Mack’s Uncle Dan, described as curmudgeonly and not-so-keen on adventure. Awkwafina voices Chump, the one-footed leader of a New York City pigeon gang, Keegan-Michael Key features in both of 2023’s Illumination films, here voicing Delroy the parrot, David Mitchell voices Goo Goo, the leader of a mallard farm, Isabela Merced voices Kim, another duck making the migration with her family, Carol Kane voices Erin the Heron, who is befriended by the trekking ducks, and Boris Rehlinger voices the Chef, the film's villain.
Fans can flock to Peacock when Illumination’s Migration arrives on the streamer on April 19.
