‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Season 17 Trailer Promises 'Golden Bach' On Other Side Of 'Abbott' Crossover
Chew on the two-episode season premiere on July 9
For an eight-episode season, there’s some high concentration of crossover coming to the seventeenth season of FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, premiering with two episodes on July 9 at 9 PM Eastern and Pacific. Not only do we get the gang’s perspective on January’s crossover with Abbott Elementary, but Frank gets to chew on his love prospects as The Golden Bachelor, complete with Jesse Palmer serving in his host role. If I had a nickel yada yada.
The official description for the season reads “Ronald ‘Mac’ MacDonald (Rob McElhenney), Charlie Kelly (Charlie Day), Dennis Reynolds (Glenn Howerton), Dee Reynolds (Kaitlin Olson), and Frank Reynolds (Danny DeVito) return to shamelessly shed their ‘niche’ label for grander aspirations. They’ll exploit cross-network promotion to increase market share; they’ll scapegoat one of their own to avoid a PR backlash; they’ll risk everything for a handshake with the Saudis; they’ll bend the laws with side hustles to pad their pockets and they’ll change everything about themselves to appeal to a broader audience.” While the absurdity of Frank as the star of The Golden Bachelor is the crown jewel of this trailer, leaning even more on the cross-network promotion exploitation, the gang also deals with paramedics, testicular fluid, a dead body throwing off vibes, as well as vehicle crashes and bar fights.
'It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia' Sets Season 17 Premiere With Ghosts From 'Abbott'
The gang is finally back, egging on in these trying times. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the long-running comedy series that stands as FXX’s last original will return with its 17th season on July 9, with the first two episodes beginning at 9 PM ET/PT, and next-day
The description continues “And sure, like any corporate goon, the Gang craves money and parasitic social privileges. That’s been plain since 2005. But they’re also human beings. They crave love.. respect… conditional freedom… constant adulation… histrionic amounts of attention… non-stop gratification… and unfiltered, slaphappy eroticism. In Season 17, they’ll chase down them all. And the money. Obviously, the money. They don’t want to spend the rest of their lives working like dogs.” Frank says in a candid Golden Bachelor interview “Can’t wait to find a grade-A, prime-cut piece of ass… to love.” And ultimately we find him delighted to be squelched by the show’s Hailey Welch parody, Cock Chewa.
The season finale should be airing on August 20, but that’s based on last season’s singular releases after its own two-episode premiere. Season 15 did two episodes every week, in which case the season won’t escape July and end on the 30th. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is executive produced by creator McElhenney, Day, Howerton, Michael Rotenberg, Nicholas Frenkel, Dave Chernin, John Chernin, Rob Rosell, David Hornsby, Nina Pedrad, and Victor Hsu for FX Productions.
