'Craig Of The Creek' Spinoff 'Jessica's Big Little World' Finally Gets Premiere Date
Pretty sure Zaslav turned it into a lame duck unfortunately, but at least it's getting out there
It’s Jessica's turn for the spotlight now, but it might be briefer than she would have liked. Cartoon Network has announced that their preschool-aimed spinoff of hit series Craig of the Creek, Jessica’s Big Little World will be premiering on October 2 at 8 AM inside Cartoonito.
The first batch of Jessica’s Big Little World episodes will also be made available to stream on Max on October 7. While it’s not getting next day releases after their linear airings there, it is getting such on digital retailers. A sneak peek of the first episode actually aired on September 20.
In the series, Jessica, voiced once again by Lucia Cunningham, takes on the world with the help of her friends, imaginary and real, even if she still does suck her thumb sometimes. It’s a world where everything seems much bigger than she is, and although she’s the youngest and still needs help with many things, it’s the older kids and grownups who inspire Jessica. She is resilient in her quest to conquer gigundous kid tasks like creating a bedtime routine or learning to ride a big kid bike. Gotta get those lessons in for the demo.
Like The Patrick Star Show or the upcoming Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, Jessica’s Big Little World is a spinoff that orbits around the mothership series, probably the strongest example of the three as she’s not moved to a new situation, her family is still around. Philip Solomon reprises his role as brother Craig, Phil LaMarr as oldest brother Bernard, and Kimberly Hebert Gregory as their mother Nicole. Interestingly, Terry Crews does not return as their father Duane, as he’s now voiced by Byron Marc Newsome. They are joined by Alani Ilongwe as Small Uncle and Ozioma Akagha as Big Jessica. Tiffany Ford serves as showrunner, executive producer, and co-creator, sharing the latter two roles with Craig showrunners Matt Burnett and Ben Levin. Sam Register also serves as executive producer.
The press release also gives an update on Craig of the Creek: The Movie, which it doesn’t call by name, that it will be premiering before the end of the year. Considering October is already spoken for, that likely means November and not be in the midst of Christmas stuff. Strangely, the press release calls the film “the first Craig of the Creek original animated movie”, which is…problematic. See, last October, in the midst of Warner Bros. Discovery’s write-off fracas, they halved the orders of both Craig and Jessica’s seasons, confirming the move canceled Craig in December, and it’s not really a situation where a cut season order comes with returns in mind. So essentially, this is very likely going to be the only season of Jessica’s Big Little World unfortunately.
