Hear Rick And Morty's New Voices For The First Time In The Season 7 Trailer
Still don't know who is voicing them but they got it right. Also check out the intro sequence!
Gearhead is confirmed! Adult Swim has released the intro sequence and trailer for season 7 of Rick and Morty, revealing some of what actually is going on this season. It also lets viewers finally hear Rick and Morty’s new voices for the first time after series co-creator Justin Roiland was fired following misconduct allegations in January that included allegedly sending abusive direct messages to a fan, problematic interview comments resurfacing and workplace behavior issues. Domestic violence charges that occurred at the time were dropped in March.
Starting with the intro, the first 12 seconds are what they’ve always been, but from there, Summer is ripped again and lifting rick, freshly buried body resurfaces, the whole family ends up in alien servitude, Rick and Morty make their lives as extreme as they want to make it…but as skiing bobbleheads? This shows up in the trailer too so it does boost the chances of it being from an episode. Jerry does full splits before the intro ends with the same creature mom chasing after Rick, Morty, Summer, and her baby that it always has (usually sans Poopy Butthole). However, the logo appears entirely alone, no created by credits, even for other co-creator Dan Harmon. Similar occurred for Solar Opposites (co-created by Star Trek: Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan). Crediting will likely happen primarily elsewhere going forward.
As for the trailer, set to “Ace of Spades” by Motörhead, the first we hear Rick’s new voice is when he has his leg day, turning into a leg. It certainly sounds alike to Roiland’s performance, so it’s still some of the funniest shit you’ll ever see. The next scene where Morty checks in on Rick as he monitors Rick Prime activity sounds even closer to Roiland, making one wonder if his recording managed to slip in. The quick cuts that ensue feature several scenes from the intro but also includes showing up at Squanchy’s door, floating geodes, an alien mafia, shooting the zombie, another therapy session with Dr. Wong and more traveling with Birdperson, as he, Rick, Squanchy and Gearhead form a traveling party. Summer encounters ghostly spirits in consecutive scenes, including that of a robot. Wong’s even seen with the president after Rick’s famous spaghetti, during which Jerry enthusiastically revealed he bombed at a job interview. Rick gets Finger Ricks. Poopy Butthole gets a face shove. Water T is back and works with Morty’s teacher to handle something. The Wong/President stuff must be from “Air Force Wong” and rather romantic, as “Virginia is for lovers, Broh”.
Whoever replaces Rick, they won’t be cast alone as it’s been confirmed that Rick and Morty will be voiced by two different people, and Morty’s sounding pretty close too. They’re not being revealed until the episodes premiere, presumably to protect them from overzealous Roiland defenders. They join Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer and Chris Parnell in the main cast. Adult Swim has touted Rick and Morty as the top comedy across all of cable during its past four seasoms. The series reached over 19 million viewers on linear broadcast in 2022 and is still highly streamed on Max. The series has won two Emmys for outstanding animated program and is currently nominated for a third. Season 7 premieres October 15 at 11 PM.
