'Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight' Season 3 Will Be Its Last
The third Po-sitioned series in the franchise is meeting its end
Oh it’s the Dragon Knight, and the feeling’s right the end’s in sight. DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight is returning for a third season on Netflix.
The third animated series in the franchise centering on Po, the Dragon Warrior, the upcoming third season will be its last, according to the DreamWorks TV Twitter/X account. It will run 19 episodes, which is significantly longer than the 11 and 12-episode seasons of which the preceding consist. It is set for release on September 7, just six days after fellow Netflix original animated series Disenchantment wraps a five-part, 50 episode run, and a day before the To Be A Pokémon Master run wraps Pokémon Ultimate Journeys and Ash Ketchum’s onscreen journey for American fans.
'Disenchantment' Is Ending After Five Seasons On Netflix
It was just eight days ago that Futurama returned on Hulu. That meant creator Matt Groening had three active shows: The Simpsons, heading into its 35th season at Fox, the aforementioned just-revived Futurama, and Disenchantment, which premiered on Netflix.
The series sees Po embark on a globe-trotting journey across China for justice and redemption, teamed with a stern and serious brown bear named Luthera, known as the English knight Wandering Blade. They must find four elemental weapons known as the Tianshang that long ago broke up the world. In season 3, the voyage heads to England, turning treacherous when confronted by pirates who have a history with Mr. Ping, who takes on a more active role. With more English knights in their pursuit, old enemies will resurface and Blade will have to face a true challenge: her mom. An unexpected turn forces the Dragon Knights to summon the Ancient Masters in order to save the world from destruction.
Unlike previous series Legends of Awesomeness and The Paws of Destiny, where voice double Mick Wingert voiced Po, Jack Black reprises the role of Po, and brings with him this season singer Rita Ora as Wandering Blade, Chris Geere as Klaus Dumont, Della Saba as Veruca Dumont, Rahnuma Panthaky as Rukhmini, Melissa Villaseñor as Akna, Ed Weeks as Colin, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Forouzan, and also reprising his role from the films and previous series, James Hong as Mr. Ping.
While another round of TV adventures wraps up in just a month, Po will be heading back to theaters with a fourth Kung Fu Panda film, set for release just about 6 months later on March 8, 2024. The trailer for The Dragon Knight’s final season can be watched below.
DreamWorks Animation Announces New Film ‘Orion And The Dark’ Will Be Released On Netflix Next Year
It’ll be ten years this December when DreamWorks Animation began supplying Netflix with animated (and eventually hybrid) series to jumpstart their kids and family original programming, with Turbo FAST. Today, despite having expanded its output to Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Peacock, and Apple TV+, even with some shifting from Netflix, the partnership continues with six currently running series.
