'Lanterns' Illuminates Its Costume Designer Cynthia Ann Summers
She may very well be the one to bring the traditional Green Lantern supersuit into the DC Universe
Lanterns officially has more HBO blood in it. After being pitched as “in the vein of True Detective” to its audience, having The Leftovers creator Damon Lindelof among its writers, and moving from being a Max exclusive to becoming an HBO original itself, the Green Lantern series of DC Studios’s new DC Universe has tapped Cynthia Ann Summers to be its costume designer.
Summers comes from having been in the same role for The Last of Us’s first season, successfully adapting the characters’ wardrobe aesthetics from the beloved video game series. It also means that she will be responsible for crafting the Green Lantern suits for both Hal Jordan and John Stewart, played by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre. It might not be the first chronologically for Jordan, but it’s still going to be our first for them. It sure would be weird if they didn’t suit up for the entire first season. Her previous credits include the Snowpiercer series, Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events series, Altered Carbon and Swan Song.
Pierre’s Stewart the new recruit being paired with Lantern legend Jordan, described here as “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” Kelly Macdonald plays Hal’s reported love interest, Sheriff Kerry, who seems to be pursued over the course of the season, Garret Dillahunt plays “modern cowboy” William Macon, Poorna Jagannathan plays Zoe, John’s reported love interest, and Ulrich Thomsen plays the villain Sinestro. Showrunner Chris Mundy, previously of Ozark, and co-writers and executive producers Lindelof and Tom King all developed the show. James Hawes directs the first two episodes and also executive produces with Ron Schmidt. While the series looked as if it would premiere in early 2026, which would place it before Supergirl, which is based on King’s own Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic and releasing June 26, it might end up being much closer.
