Madisynn’s Surprise Intervention Revealed In Marvel’s 'What If…?' Series Finale Watcher Trial
One of Phase 4’s breakout characters gets a name drop, but what does she have in common with the likes of Nick Fury and Reed Richards?
One of television’s biggest series finales put its main character on trial. Sometimes trial episodes make for clip shows as those clips make for played evidence. And sometimes it’s all previously unseen, like in Rick and Morty’s “Rickfending Your Mort”. Sometimes the trial is the framing device for the actual stories being followed, like Doctor Who season 23, The Trial of a Time Lord. Now we have the series finale of Marvel Animation’s What If…? “What If…What If?”, releasing Sunday, December 29 on Disney+. As the heroes mounted their rescue effort with major hurdles in the previous episode, the Watcher is still facing the consequences of what turns out to be not just the onscreen interventions against Infinity Ultron, and the assists of Riri Williams and Jun Fan, but much much more.
The Eminence, The Incarnate, and The Executioner are questioning why Uatu as to why he chose to not just expose their secrets to mortals but directly interfere with their fates. Uatu says he shared those secrets with heroes. Strange Supreme is used as a rebuttal, for all the bad he did, but Uatu counters that with recreating his world at the Forge at the cost of his existence, a new reality with endless forking potential. Uatu pleads that his hands-on approach helps realities live and thrive. Both of this season’s examples are reiterated, Uatu claiming it’s one in a field of “trillions” of non-interventions, but then his judges list off incidents involving Nick Fury, Reed Richards, and Madisynn King! While they are not shown like Strange and Riri’s, it’s quite amusing. Before we can get his full response, the clip ends.
At the very least, “What If…What If?” stars Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher, Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, Jason Isaacs as the Eminence, D. C. Douglas as the Incarnate, Darin De Paul as the Executioner, Devery Jacobs as Kahhori, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Natasha Lyonne as Byrdie, and Ross Marquand as a rather…enlightened Infinity Ultron. Gotta watch the preceding episode for details on that. There are other characters who had been mentioned as appearing that haven’t yet and only have this left. The episode is directed by Bryan Andrews, with a story from him, Matthew Chauncey, and Ryan Little, and a teleplay by Chauncey and Little. It wraps What If…? at 26 episodes.
