America’s Favorite Quiz Show is officially the sole domain of one of its greatest champions. Sony Pictures Television has informed Mayim Bialik that she will not be returning as host of syndicated Jeopardy!, a position she had shared with Ken Jennings since 2021.
The Blossom, The Big Bang Theory, and Call Me Kat star revealed such on her socials on Friday, writing: “As the holiday break begins in Hollywood, I have some Jeopardy! news. Sony has informed me that I will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy! I am incredibly honored to have been nominate for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Jeopardy! family. For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America’s Favorite Quiz Show, thank you.” The show’s socials would follow up, acknowledging Bialik’s statement as the direct announcement before explaining “We made the decision to have one host for the syndicated show next season to maintain continuity for our viewers, and Ken Jennings will be the sole host for syndicated Jeopardy!. We are truly grateful for all of Mayim’s contributions to Jeopardy!, and we hope to continue to work with her on primetime specials.”
So yeah, the door’s seemingly still open on primetime specials, but it seems Celebrity Jeopardy! is now famed champion Jennings’s as well. Bialik was originally among the many guest hosts after Alex Trebek’s death, taking her turn for the weeks of May 31 and June 7, 2021. And at first, she was the only real sole victor, given hosting duties for primetime specials and spinoffs, as then-executive producer Mike Richards gave himself the main syndicated gig. After Richards resigned due to scandal, she and Jennings began an alternating arrangement that would be made permanent in July 2022. Bialik even hosted the first season of Celebrity Jeopardy! and other primetime tournaments. However, when the writers began striking in May, she stepped away in solidarity while production continued with recycled clues. Jennings hosted all of syndicated season 40 thus far as well as Celebrity season 2, after Masters, which premiered in the early days of the strike, proved that the primetime arrangements were already changing. A season 39-celebrating poster had strikingly omitted Bialik, setting off alarm bells only validated by this news.

I'm a Jennings supporter, so I just hope she lands on her feet.
