'Pearl' And 'X' Breakout Mia Goth Joins Marvel Studios' 'Blade' Reboot
The Mahershala Ali starrer adds Hollywood's newest scream queen
The Marvel Cinematic Universe just got its next big get. Mia Goth, Hollywood’s latest scream queen has joined the Mahershala Ali-fronted Blade reboot from Marvel Studios.
In the nearly four years since the film has been announced, no plot details have been made available, and this continues as it’s still not known who Goth is playing either. She joins Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo in the supporting cast, and character details for them are unknown as well.
Goth’s breakout in 2022 began with the A24 horror film X, with the sequel Pearl premiering just a few months later. Goth stars in both but is the main character in Pearl. Her performance in the latter was so highly regarded it spurred discussions about her as a potential Best Actress candidate, but the Academy’s horror aversions shut her out. Her 2023 began with Infinity Pool and will be finishing up the X series, MaXXXine, later this year. She is also in talks to co-star in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation for Netflix, possibly with Andrew Garfield and Oscar Isaac.
Yann Demange is set to direct after the film lost Bassam Tariq, with Michael Starrbury on board to write the script. Blade was originally a supporting character by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, first appearing in Tomb of Dracula No. 10 in 1973. He is a vampire-hunting human-vampire hybrid thanks to his mother being bitten and killed by a blood-sucker during childbirth. The character was previously adapted to film for a trilogy released by New Line Cinema with Wesley Snipes in the role. The new Blade is scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024.
