Mia Goth Takes On 'Star Wars: Starfighter' Villain Role
The role was previously offered to Mikey Madison, who declined over pay
Mia Goth is probably unsheathed from Blade, but she’s moving over to Disney’s other biggest acquired franchise: Star Wars. She’s taking on the villain role in Star Wars: Starfighter, starring alongside Ryan Gosling.
The Shawn Levy-directed film is expected to begin production this fall in England to meet its May 28, 2027 scheduled release date. Gosling’s character must protect his young nephew against evil pursuers, and Goth’s character is one of those pursuers. If you remember hearing about the film’s villain role even by Celebration, that’s because Oscar winner Mikey Madison was reported to have rejected the role over pay.
Ryan Gosling-Shawn Levy 'Star Wars' Movie Sets Title, 2027 Release Date To Kick Off Celebration Japan
Boy does this take me back. Star Wars Celebration, the biannual fan convention for the nearly 50-year-old sci-fi franchise kicked off tonight, because it’s tomorrow in Tokyo, Japan. Its first major panel is for next year’s film The Mandalorian and Grogu
When officially announced at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo in April, Levy said, “There are many rumors, some true, some not.… This is not a prequel, this is not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet.” Gosling praised the installment as “such a great story with great and original characters,” as well as “so much heart and adventure”. That time period is five years after The Rise of Skywalker and will be the first film not having to do with the entire Skywalker Saga period or its figures. Jonathan Tropper is writing the film.
Goth rose to fame and acclaim starring in Ti West’s horror trilogy of X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. When Goth’s Blade casting was reported, the Writers Guild of America strike was weeks away, but the negotiations to star in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein alongside Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi were successful, and the film, also starring David Bradley and Lars Mikkelsen, finally releases on Netflix in November. Her role in the star-studded July 2026-releasing adaptation of The Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan has yet to be revealed.
