Mohan Kapur Takes 'Daredevil: Born Again' To New Heist With Return As Yusuf Khan
Were you banking on Kamala Khan’s dad being the first big cameo?
About ten days before the premiere of Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, word came down that Tony Dalton would be reprising his Hawkeye role as Jack Duquesne, the Swordsman. And he indeed did, in episode six of the nine-episode first season “Excessive Force”, one that really began shining the light on Muse’s serial killings, enough that it got Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, to don his Daredevil suit once again and deliver a beat down to Muse in the latter’s own lair. But of course, that sixth episode had to be paired with the fifth, “With Interest”, to be released this week after four episodes aired in the first three. And there, we found our first true cameo from outside the Daredevil sphere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with none other than Yusuf Khan, father of Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, played once again by Mohan Kapur.
Last seen in 2023’s The Marvels, Khan is the assistant manager Murdock sees at New York Mutual bank, to follow up on Murdock & McDuffie’s loan application. Khan tells him that the types of cases that Murdock & McDuffie take on make it so he has to deny it due to the firm's tendency for taking on clients who cannot afford to pay. Then Yusuf checks his phone messages, revealing “My daughter, Kamala, she’s in California, visiting some friends there…”. Khan is very proud of Jersey City now that it has has “our very own superhero, Ms. Marvel.” He then pointed out a “custom-designed” Funko Pop! figure of her that he keeps on his desk. It’s a nice bonding opportunity for the pair and they get pretty acquainted. After Murdock leaves, a group of Irish heisters take everyone hostage, attempting to steal the $1.8 million Luca needs to pay to Viktor. Murdock returns and takes out two of the robbers while Khan stalls for time at the bank vault. Murdock opens the vault, finding a rare diamond the robbers target. Eventually, after handling the robbers Murdock secretly returns the diamond in the candy bowl on Khan’s desk and accepts an invitation to have dinner with his family. He really was as much a co-star in the episode, being present for large portions than a “guest star” billing tends to imply, especially those accustomed to MCU cameos.

In the end, “There are a couple of cool moments that we got in there that were a bit of a wink to Ms. Marvel, so hopefully, people are going to really enjoy that episode.” And more than a wink it was.
