'Mystery Science Theater 3000' Announces Campaign’s Final Watchalong Livestream
It seems to be the last, considering Turkey Day would be just 36 hours away…
After a week without a published update, Mystery Science Theater 3000 creator Joel Hodgson sent a new update to backers of the season 14 crowdfunding campaign. It formally announced tonight’s Demon Squad episode watchalong livestream with the writers at 8 PM EST on the Gizmoplex, and the show’s Twitch and YouTube channels, but with a week until the campaign-ending Mega Turkey Day Marathon Telethon, they’re going to squeeze one more watchalong in beforehand.
On Tuesday, November 21 at 8 PM Eastern at the same locations as the previous watchalongs, Joel himself will join whatever writers are attending season 13’s 11th episode, the 1961 film The Mask, which served as the show’s first Halloween episode. He will be answering questions about the campaign and season 14. Might be good to start asking about contingencies as the campaign stands at $1,659,546, 35% progress from 9664 contributors. As for The Mask, which is not related to the 1994 Jim Carrey film based on the Dark Horse comics, the summary given in the episode list reads:
A young archaeologist believes he is cursed by a mask that causes him to have weird nightmares and possibly commit murder. He mails the mask to his psychiatrist, Dr. Barnes, who is soon plunged into the nightmare world of the mask.
The 2D version of the episode will be shown (yes it’s also available in 3D), presumably because it’s a more general audience that they can’t resupply 3D glasses. The update also offered a look at the in-progress art for the official T-shirt being produced for the campaign. He acknowledges a blacklight theme linking a lot of the art, with the t-shirt in particular inspired by old sci-fi/fantasy blacklight posters. Colors for the t-shirt are still being finalized but he considered the look at the black-and-white version warranted.
The Mega Turkey Day Marathon Telethon begins Thursday morning, November 23 at 9 AM Eastern and runs 48 hours to Saturday November 25 at 9 AM at the same locations as the watchalongs and more. Keep circulating the links.
