'Mystery Science Theater 3000' Announces 2-Day Thanksgiving Marathon Telethon
Turkey Day is welcoming to Turkey Days on the Satellite of Love
The experiments continue over at Gizmonic Arts. While its audience stuffs its face with a Thanksgiving feast, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is stuffing its annual Turkey Day marathon with the burden of covering the final two days of the show’s season 14 crowdfunding campaign, in the hopes of a real Black Friday. Currently, the campaign has raised $1,628,664 from 9423 contributors, just over a third to the $4.8 million goal with 12 days left.
The Mega Turkey Day Marathon Telethon will run a whopping 24 classic MST3K episodes beginning at 9 am ET on Thursday, November 23 and concludes Saturday, November 25 at 9 am ET. Turkey Day marathons, a staple for the show dating back to its Comedy Central days and continuing even into its wilderness years, especially once YouTube hit it off, also tend to commemorate the show’s premiere anniversary, having happened on November 24, 1988, and thus this year makes a huge 35th anniversary celebration. This year’s marathon lineup was selected by the series’ writers, who were asked to choose their favorite classic episodes, the ones that inspired them to pursue their careers.
The carefully curated collection of episodes chosen include Viking Women and the Sea Serpent, a selection of “Surgically Enhanced” classic episodes including The Pumaman showcasing the upgraded visuals to 1080p from the original 480p. Season 13 episodes will also be featured, including The Bubble and the season finale The Christmas Dragon, the latter also part of a “holiday episodes” collection that is very likely to include Santa Claus from the Mike era and Joel’s seminal classic Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. A Patrick Swayze Christmas is practically secured.
The Mega Turkey Day Marathon Telethon is streaming on the Gizmoplex, the MST3K app, the MST3K Twitch, YouTube, and Pluto TV channels, and Shout! TV! Watch on devices such as Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire via the Shout! TV app, Sling, Samsung, LG, Fubo, Vizio, and more. In the meantime, the next watchalong will be happening at the Gizmoplex and Twitch and YouTube channels this Thursday, November 16 at 8 PM Eastern. Keep circulating the links.
