Netflix 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Production Moves Into Season 3, Announces New Cast Members For Better Or Ursa
Yip yip onto the completion of the story! We’ve got Zuko’s mom! The Deserter! Avatar Yangchen! And more!
It’s a comet-y of eras. Netflix has announced that its live-action adaptation of the beloved Nicktoon Avatar: The Last Airbender has wrapped on its second season and is headed straight into its third and last, with an announcement video by cast members Gordon Cormier (Aang), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Miya Cech (Toph), Kiawentiio (Katara), Dallas Liu (Zuko), Elizabeth Yu (Azula), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Uncle Iroh), Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai). With it came casting reveals of five new characters in the series for season 2, and a bonus pair for season 3.
Of the five season 2 newcomers, we have Best Friends Whenever and Bizaardvark star Madison Hu, lately of The Brothers Sun as an original character named Fei. No character description given. There’s also Terry Chen, who currently stars on Wild Cards on The CW as Chief Li, who appeared as Commander Shumway in 4 episodes of The 100, Xander Feng in 5 episodes of House of Cards, Alan Kay in ten episodes of A Million Little Things, Praxidike Meng on 13 episodes of The Expanse, and Pryce Cheng on six episodes of Jessica Jones has been cast as Jeong Jeong, aka The Deserter, a strong, enlightened firebending master embittered by what he’s witnessed over the Hundred Years War. Originally voiced by Keone Young, he’s on the Order of the White Lotus with King Bumi, Iroh, Pakku, and Piandao, who will be introduced next season. Piandao was Zuko and Sokka’s mentor in swordsmanship, voiced by Robert Patrick, who will now be played by Jon Jon Briones of Transformers: EarthSpark.
'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Season 2 Casts The Earth King, Long Feng, Joo Dee And More
I heard it through the leaves from the vine: Netflix is Dai Li-ng in on casting the prominent members of the Earth Kingdom for the second season of its Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation, continuing the adventures of Aang, Sokka, and Katara. Eight new cast members have been announced.
As long as we are segued into the season 3 additions, we might as well touch on Tantoo Cardinal as Hama the bloodbender. Of Cree and Métis heritage, she’s often cast in roles tied to Aboriginal and Native American people in films and television series like Dances with Wolves, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Echo. Dolly de Leon is set for the dual roles of Li and Lo, elderly twins who were Azula’s advisors and firebending mentors. She appeared in the film Jackpot! and plays the series regular role of Agnes on the just-premiered second season of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers. Lily Gao, whose credits include seven episodes of The Expanse and the film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, has been cast as Fire Lady Ursa, Zuko and Azula’s mother. And finally we have the most familiar face of the bunch, Dichen Lachman. Currently truly making her breakout as Ms. Casey/Gemma Scout on Severance, she’s probably best known as Jiaying, Daisy’s mother on Agents of SHIELD, Anya on The 100, and Soyona Santos in the Jurassic World: Dominion film and subsequent Chaos Theory animated series, playing Avatar Yangchen. She was the last air nomad prior to Aang to be Avatar, and was voiced by Tress MacNeille. Wherein the source material she was maybe given one speaking appearance, this adaptation might give her a bit more to do.
“We’re looking forward to working with all of our actors again and digging into the deeper, more complicated relationships that develop as their journey continues in Season 2,” executive producers and current showrunners Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani previously told in February. “We are going to show the real-world versions of iconic scenes from the original, and explore some of the stories that the animation didn’t. Mainly, we’re looking forward to seeing our gang all together again.”
Season two previously confirmed Chin Han as Long Feng, Justin Chien as King Kuei, Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee, Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong, Toph’s mother, Kelemete Misipeka as The Boulder, Hoa Xuande as Professor Zei, Lourdes Faberes as General Sung, and Rekha Sharma as Amita. Albert Kim, the last of the live-action version’s developers, stepped down after showrunning last season but stays involved as an executive producer along with Dan Lin, Ryan Halprin, and Brendan Ferguson.
'The Legend Of Aang' Delayed To October 2026, 'Mutant Mayhem' Sequel To September 2027
I guess when taking on a second animation studio for your film, it’s not exactly for cleanup. Paramount Pictures has announced Friday that due to delays in animated physical production they’re delaying the sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
