Netflix Putts 'Happy Gilmore 2' On July Release Date With New Teaser
Swing away this summer for this sequel
Well we still don’t have a synopsis yet, but there will be plenty happy to know that Netflix has confirmed the long-reported July release date for the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2. Adam Sandler’s sequel to his classic 1996 film will officially be released on July 25, and the streamer has released another teaser trailer to announce it.
Happy is now enshrined with golf’s greatest, even if his bust isn’t so flattering. It seems he finds himself rusty after having not golfed for a while and worried he won’t have it facing off against some PGA heavyweights, reportedly including Keegan Bradley, John Daly, Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Jack Nicklaus, Corey Pavin, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, and Lee Trevino. He makes adjustments to his happy place, though we don’t see it yet, even as we return to it at the end of the teaser. Set to “Magic” by Pilot, he works on his game and Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) has a (Shawshank?) moment in the rain. Julie Bowen’s Virginia, presumably now his wife, is as supportive as ever on the course and at home. There’s even a glimpse of his reunion with Ben Stiller’s Hal, who was an abusive orderly in the first film.
Netflix Comes Swinging For The Holidays With 'Happy Gilmore 2' Teaser
Put on your yamikahs, it’s time for Chanukah. But also Netflix is hosting its first NFL Christmas doubleheader, a prime position to showcase what’s coming up for the streamer in 2025. They actually didn’t do much of that, but what they did do includes the upcoming Adam Sandler sequel
With Bad Bunny as his caddie (name still unrevealed), Happy Gilmore 2 also features The Substance’s Margaret Qualley, Nick Swardson, Kid Cudi, and Sandler’s Uncut Gems director Benny Safdie with their roles still yet to be revealed. Were any of them visible in this teaser? I couldn’t tell. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is among one of many cameos that include rapper Eminem, the aforementioned golfers, sportscaster and Sandler regular Dan Patrick, and former NFL running back Reggie Bush. Dennis Dugan, the first film’s director will reprise his role as Doug Thompson, who was the commissioner of the pro golf tour in the first film. With directing taken on by Kyle Newacheck, director of previous Sandler Netflix film Murder Mystery, Dugan will still executive produce, with Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds producing. Tim Herlihy returns to write.
