New 'Hit-Monkey' Season 2 Images Released By Hulu
Cristin Milioti and Leslie Jones join the new season premiering on Hulu on July 15
It’s been 31 months since the adult animated Marvel series Hit-Monkey dropped its entire first season on Hulu. It’s an interesting situation where it’s the last vestige of an old deal of Hulu Marvel content, but isn’t alone anymore (as far as active shows) now that Hulu has been integrated into Disney+. With just one more to wait for the second, the streamer has released six first-look images before that July 15 premiere.
The images don’t show much in terms of plot, but they’re very scenic and atmospheric showing off Monkey and Bryce in the Manhattan setting. Though it does include climbing or falling from a skyscraper and following a sword-wielder with glowing eyes off the subway.
Based on the comic books created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajić, the crazy and gruesome series follows a Japanese snow monkey who, partnering with the ghost of an American assassin named Bryce, goes on a revenge-fueled killing-spree and becomes the famous “killer of killers.” But with this new season and the voyage to New York City, Monkey seems to have found a path to escape this vengeful life. Bryce attempts to repair the damage to those he wronged in life. But doing so may come at great cost.
The series, now under 20th Television Animation, stars Fred Tatasciore vocalizing as Hit-Monkey and Jason Sudeikis as Bryce, with Ally Maki as Haruka. Co-created by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, they remain as executive producers. Saturday Night Live alum and Ghostbuster Leslie Jones and Cristin Milioti, best known as beloved long-awaited mother Tracy McConnell join as new characters Eunice and Iris. Eunice is sarcastic, foul-mouthed and tough-as-nails as the best assassin’s agent in New York City. In fact, she was Bryce’s agent before his death, making her more than happy to represent Hit-Monkey. Iris is Bryce’s abandoned daughter who vowed never to be like him. But following a fateful reunion she realizes how truly alike they are, setting a path for reconciliation. Milioti’s next role will be as Sofia Falcone in Max’s The Batman spinoff series The Penguin, reportedly premiering in September.
Hit-Monkey is the sole survivor of a group of Marvel shows made for Hulu announced along with Howard the Duck, Tigra and Dazzler, and MODOK, that were supposed to come together in a The Offenders special. The former two were canceled three months later, leaving only it and MODOK alive. MODOK premiered in May 2021 and being canceled a year later. Hit-Monkey did end up going through a bit of a production change with its February 2023 renewal, because Marvel Television had been folded by the time of its premiere. Unfortunately, even with the rebirth of the Marvel Television banner it seems that it was too late to gain its involvement back. Besides, it would probably go under Marvel Animation anyway if they wanted it to.
