Hulu Sets Summer Premiere Dates For 'Futurama' Season 12, 'Hit-Monkey' Season 2
'Solar Opposites' season 5 has also gotten its premiere date, and it felt right to group all the 20th Television Animation content together
Good news everyone! Hulu is keeping Futurama in a consistent summertime window, announcing a premiere date for the upcoming twelfth broadcast season, amongst a significant portion of if not its entire spring and summer slate of originals and exclusives. That most notably includes other adult animated fare, namely Hit-Monkey season 2 and Solar Opposites season 5.
Wouldn’t you know it, they’re all premiering in a 4-week span. It kicks off with Hit-Monkey on July 15. The series is based on a Marvel comic (character), a Japanese snow monkey whose tribe is slaughtered as he joins forces with the ghost of an American assassin. Together they begin killing their way through the Yakuza underworld. Season 2 takes them to New York City, where, according to the synopsis, Monkey struggles against his darker nature while he tries to escape his life of killing while Bryce attempts to repair the damage to those he wronged in life. The season asks what will it cost them to undo the past? Hit-Monkey is the sole survivor of a group of Marvel shows made for Hulu announced along with Howard the Duck, Tigra and Dazzler, and MODOK, that were supposed to come together in a The Offenders special. The former two were canceled three months later, leaving only it and MODOK alive. MODOK premiered in May 2021 and being canceled a year later. Hit-Monkey did end up going through a bit of a production change with its February 2023 renewal. With Marvel Television no longer existing, folding into Marvel Studios, Hit-Monkey wasn’t moved into Marvel Animation’s slate. Instead, season 2 is done at 20th Television Animation; thus, the show will be shedding Marvel from its title. However, the logo will still be present in other ways, presumably just deeper in the credits. Co-created by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, they remain as executive producers. Fred Tatasciore voices Hit-Monkey, and stars with Jason Sudeikis as his mentor Bruce, as well as Olivia Munn and Ally Maki, and new regular Leslie Jones.
Two weeks later on July 29 is broadcast season 12 of Futurama, the ten episodes that make the back half of production season 8. Of the three series it is the only to have weekly releases than all-at-once drops, which is all they respectively have ever had. It also keeps Futurama a July-starting show like it was a June-starting show on Comedy Central. Their endings would be closer had two episodes not been premiered to open and sometimes close seasons/halves in that era. The description celebrated the show’s successful revival, before going on to explain this season’s antics as such: our occasionally heroic crew embarks on mind-bending adventures involving birthday party games to the death, the secrets of Bender’s ancestral robot village, A.I. friends (and enemies), impossibly cute beanbags, and the true five million-year-old story behind the consciousness-altering substance known as coffee. And, of course, the next chapter in Fry and Leela’s fateful, time-twisted romance.” Running until September 30, the ten episodes’ titles have been out there through the EIDR, and Wikipedia cited such. In the hopes of an official title reveal post, I think I’m going to wait for now. I could otherwise put them in the impending season trailer article, whenever it happens. It’ll be gold temper.
Releasing with the third episode of Futurama’s season is Solar Opposites’s 12-episode fifth season on August 12. It will see the Solar Opposites team focus on family values in the wake of the marriage of alien mission partners Terry, voiced by Thomas Middleditch, and Korvo, voiced by Dan Stevens. While the season has two episodes more than Futurama’s, it is far less generous in divulging what awaits. With the integration of Hulu into U.S. Disney+ completed in early March, these seasons are the first that will roll out that way as well as on Disney+ for the rest of the world where applicable.
