'Star Wars: Tales Of The Jedi' Season 2 Is 'Tales Of The Empire'; Sets Star Wars Day Premiere
All six shorts will premiere on Disney+ on May 4, serving as the customary new content release from the franchise on its special day
May the 4th be with you, and this year, long live the empire. Almost a year ago, at the end of Star Wars Celebration Europe’s panel celebrating the 15th anniversary of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, series creator Dave Filoni announced that he was going to be doing more of the Tales of the Jedi anthology series released in 2022 made in The Clone Wars’s style. In a surprise announcement, Disney+ and Lucasfilm have released key art and a trailer for Tales of the Empire.
Like Jedi following Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku, Empire will this time be six episodes that follow Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth and former Jedi Barriss Offee, two warriors on divergent paths. In particular, a young Elsbeth, voiced by Diana Lee Inosanto, reprising her role which debuted on The Mandalorian and subsequently seven of the eight first season episodes of Ahsoka, navigates the expanding Imperial world towards a path of vengeance, while Offee, voiced once again by Meredith Salenger reprising her role from The Clone Wars, does what she must to survive the rapidly changing galaxy. The choices they make will define their destinies.
The cast also features Rya Kihlstedt as Lyn, also known as Fourth Sister, and Wing T. Chao as Wing, with three Empire figures having their voices return as well: Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, Jason Isaacs as the Grand Inquisitor and Matthew Wood as General Grievous. Filoni, now Lucasfilm CCO, not only created the series but is the supervising director, and an executive producer along with Athena Yvette Portillo and Carrie Beck. Josh Rimes serves as co-executive producer and Alex Spotswood is the senior producer.
In the Disney+ era, Disney has consistently premiered new Star Wars content on Star Wars Day on the platform for the occasion, starting with the finale of The Clone Wars, the arrival of The Rise of Skywalker, and the first installment of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. In 2021 Star Wars: The Bad Batch, currently in its third and final season, premiered, as did the The Simpsons short film Maggie Simpson in "The Force Awakens from Its Nap". Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett and the second trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi were 2022’s offerings. Last year, as previously covered, the second volume of Visions, another Simpsons short film Maggie Simpson in "Rogue Not Quite One" and the first seven episodes of Young Jedi Adventures all premiered. Tales Of The Empire will continue that, though being first of such to be announced, it’s unknown if there will be anything else new to join it.
