'Futurama' Renewed For Another Two (Broadcast) Seasons At Hulu
That’s one production season if you’ve been keeping track
Futurama won’t go back to being dead again for quite a while. Hulu has renewed the long-running but oft-ending Matt Groening animated series for another 20 episodes. That will make up seasons 13 and 14 for the streamer, each running ten episodes, and will likely be considered production season 9.
This comes 5 weeks after the show’s eleventh season ended with “All The Way Down”, the season beginning at “The Impossible Stream” on July 24. Season 12, the back half of production season 8 and the original order, is still set to premiere its ten episodes next year.
Futurama originally ran on Fox for four production (five broadcast) seasons and 72 episodes from 1999-2003. It was first revived for four direct-to-video films from 2007 to 2009. Those make 16 episodes for a broadcast fifth season, and led to 2 seasons and 52 episodes (split into four 13s) from 2010 to 2013 on Comedy Central. Hulu revived the series with the initial 20 episode order in February 2022. The series stars Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman, who all return. The Simpsons creator Groening developed the series David X. Cohen and they serve as executive producers with Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz.
When the revival launched, Hulu also launched the “Animayhem”-branded hub for its expansive library of adult animation and anime content. Another beloved Animation Domination 20th Television Animation title, King of the Hill, is also being revived for the streamer and is still set to premiere next year as well.
