New 'Suicide Squad Isekai' Trailer Reveals Team Details
Composition, cast, much more depth than’s been gotten so far.
On Friday night Japan time, the Warner Bros. Japan Anime YouTube channel held a reveal stream for Suicide Squad Isekai, the anime they’re doing with WIT Studio, responsible for such previous anime as Ranking of Kings, Spy x Family, and the first three seasons of Attack on Titan. This makes sense, as while Anime Expo, where the project was announced, is a public event, it’s not so accessible to a global public, especially to Japanese audiences. This included not only a new trailer to see the fuller team, but a voice cast reveal as well.
In previous coverage, it was lamented that the first trailer was so Joker and Harley Quinn-centric it didn’t effectively convey what made it a Suicide Squad project. But this takes care of all of that. Of course, Joker isn’t on the team, but Peacemaker, Clayface, Deadshot, and King Shark are, led by Amanda Waller once again. Certainly a very The Suicide Squad-inspired majority, but Clayface is an inspired choice and bringing “back” Deadshot is the right move, as the replacement with Idris Elba’s Bloodsport when Will Smith didn’t come back was rather direct and transparent. According to the trailer, the shunting to another universe, the Isekai itself, will be to where they need to go to complete their very timed mission, as of course they have the bombs placed in their skulls ready to detonate.
The logline reads:
In the crime-ridden city of Gotham, Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., has assembled a group of notorious criminals for a mission: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark. These Super-Villains are sent into an otherworldly realm that’s connected to this world through a gate. It’s a world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies—an “ISEKAI”!
With lethal explosives planted in their necks, there’s no running or hiding, and failing the mission means a one-way ticket to the afterlife! Can Harley Quinn and her crew conquer this perilous ISEKAI realm?! Brace yourselves for the pulse-pounding saga of the elite task force known as the “Suicide Squad” as they embark on a jaw-dropping adventure!
As far as that cast, Harley will be voiced by Anna Nagase, Deadshot by Reigo Yamaguchi, Peacemaker by JoJo's Bizarre Adventure’s Takehito Koyasu, Clayface by Blue Exorcist’s Jun Fukuyama, King Shark by Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Subaru Kimura, and Joker by Yuichiro Umehara. Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara are the series’ writers, while Akira Amano and Naoto Hosoda are the character designers and Kenichiro Suehiro is composer. The theme song is titled "Another World" and is performed by Tomoyasu Hotei. The presentation also confirmed a 2024 release.
