Paramount+ Releases Official Trailer For 'The Tiger's Apprentice'
The film releases on February 2
It’s Tom Lee’s time to be a zodiac-infused guardian of humanity in Paramount Animation’s The Tiger’s Apprentice, releasing exclusively on Paramount+ on February 2. The streamer released the film’s official trailer on Tuesday.
It opens with Tom, voiced by Brandon Soo Hoo getting bullied at his high school and in defending himself he accidentally uses his powers for the first time. Such acts as a beacon for Hu, the mythical tiger in human guise voiced by Henry Golding, to approach him to become the next guardian in the wake of his grandmother’s death. Hu and the other animals of the zodiac help train Tom to take on evils like the Loo looking to destroy humanity.
Director Raman Hui has discussed his personal connection, saying “Having lived in San Francisco and being Chinese American, I found the fantasy of mythical Zodiac warriors helping a Chinese kid in San Francisco Chinatown to become the guardian fascinating.” He also boasts the Asian-heavy cast, which in addition to Hoo and Golding features Lucy Liu, Leah Lewis, Bowen Yang, Sherry Cola, Jo Koy, Sandra Oh, and Michelle Yeoh, as well as Deborah S. Craig, Jo Koy, Greta Lee, Diana Lee Inosanto, Patrick Gallagher, and Poppy Liu.
The Tiger’s Apprentice is based on Laurence Yep’s novel of the same name. While directed by Hui, the film is co-directed by Paul Watling and Yong Duk Jhun, with David Magee and Christopher Yost writing the script.
