Release Your Premonitions, Madame Web’s On Your Spin In New Trailer
There’s a bit of Paramedics of Dunshire going on in Sony’s next Spider-Man Universe film
Nearly a week after the release of The Marvels, the trailer for the next Marvel movie is here, from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. The company has released the trailer for Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson.
The Fifty Shades of Grey and Bad Times at the El Royale star plays Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic who seems to have gained clairvoyance that allows her to see into the future and the interconnected world of Spider-People. In the trailer, she’s saved from drowning by her paramedic colleagues including Adam Scott. Seeing the harm Ezekiel Sims, played by Tahar Rahim, intends with his Spider-Man-like appearance and abilities as a colleague of her spider researcher mother’s at the time of her death, she finds herself connected to three other women. Isabela Merced’s Anya Corazon, who lives in her building and will be Araña, Sydney Sweeney’s Julia Carpenter and Celeste O’Connor’s Mattie Franklin, the latter of whom she almost hit with her paramedic truck who will both be their own Spider-Woman. This essentially covers bases by featuring the Spider-Women that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which did feature Gwen Stacy and Jessica Drew, did not. In the comics, Carpenter even gets Webb’s powers and mantle (and blindness) after the latter dies.
Madame Web is directed by S.J. Clarkson, who directed episodes of Netflix Marvel shows Jessica Jones and The Defenders. Clarkson co-wrote the screenplay with Claire Parker. Swinging into theaters on February 14, 2024, it managed to move up from the Friday (February 16) to the Wednesday in the midst of mid-strike announcements of major delays for other Sony flicks. It is currently scheduled to be the first Sony Spider-Man film to release over the year, to be followed by Kraven The Hunter on August 30 and Venom 3 on November 8.
