'Venom 3' Moves To November Date 'Deadpool 3' Once Stood
The actors got their deal, but the aftershocks are still shaking
It’s not going to be a hot Venom summer after all. After initially giving Venom 3 a July 12, 2024 release date this past July, Sony Pictures has delayed it to November 8, 2024, one year from today.
The film is directed by Kelly Marcel and brings back Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote, now joined by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Juno Temple. Marcel wrote the screenplay and did the story with Hardy, who are also producing with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker. That it’s only been a little over a month since the Writers Guild of America got their contract means story details may very well be not hashed out, let alone ready to film as the SAG-AFTRA strike order is just being lifted in mere hours after a deal was reached Wednesday night.
The November 8 date might be familiar to Marvel fans, as from October 2022 when Blade lost its director until Disney’s June 2023 initial round of contract refusal-caused delays, that was where Deadpool 3 was assigned to release. In June, it was actually moved up to May in an optimistic move that it reportedly will no longer meet and awaits another new date. In its place, Disney moved The Amateur from 20th Century Studios and starring Rachel Brosnahan and Rami Malek, and it now serves as Venom 3’s competition. Only three other films are currently scheduled there for the entire month, at least as far as American films: Warner Bros.’s Alto Knights on 11/15, Paramount’s very distanced sequel Gladiator 2 on 11/22, and Universal’s Wicked: Part One on 11/27.
With all contracts achieved, Venom 3, Deadpool 3, and Gladiator 2 are among the films set to restart production this week or in very near future. Beetlejuice 2 is another, with its 2 days left to finish. Relatedly, voiceover recording for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse can resume, having lost its March 29, 2024 release date without replacement in Sony’s own delays due to the AMPTP stubbornness, which was actually around when Venom 3 was originally dated.
