'Phineas And Ferb' Releases Teaser Art For New Season At New York Comic-Con
Summer begins again on Disney Channel and Disney+ in 2025
Unfortunately, but probably most evidently, Phineas and Ferb will not be returning with the first of its two seasons on Disney Channel (and Disney+) in 2024. Too much Halloween and Christmas for that. The first episode was only just finished at the start of the month. So it’s still coming in 2025. Creators and executive producers Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh have brought special guests to a New York Comic-Con panel Thursday afternoon with a sneak peek. But first, it was seen fit to release the first poster and confirm some cast.
It seems the entire main cast, as of post-original run assembly such as for the Milo Murphy’s Law crossover and the 2020 Candace Against the Universe movie, is intact. That means Vincent Martella as Phineas Flynn and David Errigo Jr. as Ferb for his first official series episodes. They, Caroline Rhea as Linda Flynn-Fletcher, Ashley Tisdale as Candace Flynn, Dee Bradley Baker as Perry the Platypus and Alyson Stoner as Isabella Garcia-Shapiro, all joined the show's creators on the panel as confirmed returnees. If you’ve been following along on socials, Tisdale previously shared on her socials that she brought her oldest daughter to recording sessions, and just gave birth to her second. And of course Povenmire and Marsh are back as Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Major Monogram. Disney also promises a guest cast lineup of “notable actors, musicians, athletes and more”. At least one has already been confirmed by Marsh: The Traitors host and The Good Wife and X2 star Alan Cumming.
Also returning is Olivia Olson as Vanessa Doofenshmirtz, who has joined the writers’ room among a slew of returnees including her father, Martin Olson, Joshua Pruett, and a bunch of newbies who had grown up with the show, including Oscar Lemus. According to Disney, “the new season of Phineas and Ferb will follow the inventive stepbrothers as they tackle another 104 days of summer. Candace is more determined than ever to finally bust her little brothers while their pet platypus, Perry, continues to lead a double life as the suave Agent P, whose sole mission is to thwart Dr. Doofenshmirtz from taking over the Tri-State area.” At D23, Povenmire and Marsh shared Season 5’s opening song “Summer Is Starting Right Now”, which happens on the last day of school. It was played again as the aforementioned sneak peek for the New York Comic-Con crowd at the panel.
Phineas and Ferb debuted to the world on Disney Channel’s highest-rated night ever in August 2007, with another “preview” episode or two on the path to its official February 2008 premiere, and is easily the company’s biggest animated series in terms of merchandise, becoming the #1 animated TV series of 2009 among tweens 9-14. The series’ ratings grew to #1 among both kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 in 2011. The first TV movie Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension premiered as the eighth-highest rated Disney Channel Original Movie ever. Phineas and Ferb had numerous specials throughout its run, including the series finale “The Last Day of Summer” in June 2015, and a “The OWCA Files” backdoor pilot aired that fall, with the original run ultimately being four seasons and about 130 episodes.
The poster released has the tagline “We’re getting the band back together!”, a tagline repeated by cast and crew sharing on their socials, and features Phineas, Ferb, Isabella, Baljeet, and Buford onstage likely for a reunion concert where Agent P is foiling Doof’s scheme, Candace is ready to bust as usual. Those in attendance include The Bettys, Tiny Cowboy and Love Handel, all fictional bands who appeared in the original run. In fact there are loads of characters here, including Major Monogram, Karl the Intern, Monty Monogram seemingly on another date with Vanessa, Peter the Panda, Isabella and Stacy’s moms, both the Flynn and Fletcher grandparents, Candace’s (future) daughter Amanda Johnson, a Phinedroid, a Ferbot, Super Super Big Doctor, the Fireside Girls, including Melissa from “We Call It Maze”, Irving, Albert, Meep, Ducky Momo, Balloony, Norm, Mitch, the farmer and his wife, Marty and his musical blender, the “Squirrels in My Pants” rappers, Dr. Gevaarlijk (I must impress my professor!), the girlfriend Doof sang “Evil Love” with before dumping him thanks to being struck with an inator beam who never got a name, the Martian alien species, the similarly green but separate giant baby alien species, the talking zebra, the Lake Nose Monster, the giant baby head and… MILO MURPHY?
In the six months after the season two finale of Milo Murphy’s Law before Disney+ launched, and a bit after, co-creator Povenmire kept pushing that he was told by higher-ups if Milo Murphy’s Law did really well on Disney+, it would get a third season. And it turns out the executives kept their word. Except Phineas and Ferb was so consistently a high performer on Disney+ over its first three+ years that it received the two-season, 40-episode revival order in January 2023.

Mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I'm a big fan, but they got it completely right the first time. Next time, maybe not so much...
