'Scary Movie 6' Finds The Wayans To A Summer 2026 Release
It’s a scary date. I don’t even know what references to make
When Scream 7 releases in theaters in late February 2026, Scary Movie 6 won’t be that far behind. Marlon Wayans has alerted fans to mark their calendars as Paramount and Miramax have set the film’s release date to be June 12, 2026.
There’s very little known about this new installment, other than it bringing back not only Marlon, but brothers Shawn and Keenen Ivory. Frankly releasing a synopsis would probably telegraph the major parody targets and they very well might not be ready to reveal that. Rick Alvarez is also writing and producing. The film’s most direct competition, which to me is whatever films are opening together, is a Universal film that is the Daniels’s first film since Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Marlon also made the big announcement of their and the franchise’s return in November, saying "WE'RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they've been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.” The fifth film was released without their involvement (which had diminished over the third and fourth, where they did not act) in 2013. A more joint statement made with the involved brothers says “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”
Sources believe that the film is part of a concerted effort by Paramount to bring comedies back at the box office. They still have the Trey Parker-Matt Stone comedy collab with Kendrick Lamar set for July 4, The Naked Gun with Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser just another four weeks later on August 1, so they’re all over a seven-week span. Maybe they’re onto something as the Sony R-rated One of Them Days, starring Keke Palmer had a rather successful opening weekend of $17 million.
