'Scream 7' Brings Back Mason Gooding, Adds Anna Camp
Chad Meeks-Martin is officially back as part of a pair of pitch perfect moves
As Scream 7 revs up production, the latest installment of the horror franchise from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media is bringing in more continuity and star power. Mason Gooding is set to reprise his role as Chad Meeks-Martin, and Perfect Harmony star Anna Camp joins in an unrevealed role.
Following the unjustified firing of Melissa Barrera for speaking out against genocide and the subsequent and probably related departure of Jenna Ortega, who played sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter, it was unknown how much their friend group would be involved after they were all introduced in the fifth film. Chad Meeks-Martin’s mother is Martha Meeks, played by Heather Matarazzo. Martha, who was introduced in the third film is the sister of Jamie Kennedy’s Randy, making him Randy’s nephew. He is the fraternal twin brother of Mindy, played by Jasmin Savoy Brown, who is apparently in talks but hasn’t officially signed on yet.
Scream 7 shifts the focus back to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, and will also bring her daughter into the action, played by Isabel May. Camp joins Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace, and Sam Rechner as far as those whose characters have yet to be revealed. Through the turmoil, Gooding had faith that the film would still happen, saying “If it could make money, I guarantee, they’re making it,” he told me at the time. “It’s all about keeping up with what feels like is the best movie for the fans. Scream doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy is as much as they do… If people want it, they will certainly try their best to see it happen.”
Kevin Williamson, who of the original four Wes Craven-directed films only missed out on writing the third, is back to direct but is not writing this film. He replaces the departed Christopher Landon. Guy Busick, who wrote Scream and Scream VI with James Vanderbilt is going solo this time while Vanderbilt is busy with other commitments. Vanderbilt, representing Project X Entertainment with William Sherak and Paul Neinstein are producing with Radio Silence, the directors of the fifth and sixth installments, serving as executive producers.
Currently seen in the Kyle Mooney-directed Y2K, Gooding next has the horror film Heart Eyes, also starring Olivia Holt and releasing February 7. Camp meanwhile is probably best known for starring in the a capella comedy franchise Pitch Perfect, Camp most recently starred with Bruce Campbell in Peacock’s series Hysteria! Her other film credits include Jerry and Marge Go Large and The Help. She was also a series regular as Gwen Grandy for the first season of The Mindy Project, as Sarah Newlin for the second, sixth, and seventh seasons of HBO’s vampire drama True Blood, and played Pam’s sister Penny in the “Niagara” wedding episode of The Office, as well as Sectionals judge and pageant girl Candace Dystra on Glee. Recurring for three episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Camp has also appeared in Good Girls Revolt and The Good Wife. Camp next has the action comedy Bride Hard, reuniting her with Rebel Wilson, as well as the fifth and final season of Netflix’s You. Scream 7 is currently set to open in theaters on February 27, 2026.
