'Scrubs' Revived By ABC For Season 10; Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke Aboard
Scrub in, we’re going back to Sacred Heart
As Superman flies back into theaters for Thursday previews of James Gunn’s directorial effort starring David Corenswet, ABC will have you saying “I’m no Superman” all over again. 15 years after canceling beloved NBC-born sitcom Scrubs after a nine-season run (two spent with them), they have greenlit a tenth season, with Zach Braff’s JD Dorian as lead once again alongside Sarah Chalke as wife Elliot and Donald Faison as best friend Christopher Turk, who have officially signed on to reprise and be executive producers.
Season ten will follow the trio as they become Sacred Heart colleagues again for the first time since JD and Elliot left during their lighter roles in the last season. All three of them have to navigate sixteen years of changes to the medical profession. Both Braff and creator Bill Lawrence expressed interest in showcasing a JD “beat down by the system.” Characters new and old will be around with the same laughter and heart and some new surprises along the way. It is a straight-to-series order for the 2025-2026 season, making for ABC’s second new scripted series on the schedule alongside 9-1-1: Nashville. Of course, a July pickup will likely make Scrubs a midseason premiere. The newly confirmed pair gave a “Hello again” (Faison) and a “YAY!!!!” (Chalke) respectively.
New ‘Percy Jackson', 'King Of The Hill', 'Wonder Man' Footage Featured In Hulu/Disney+ Sizzle Reel For Back Of 2025
Well, we’re officially a week over halfway through 2025, and it seems Hulu and Disney+ were ready to show off in bulk what they have for the rest of the year. While it’s not quite everything, as you won’t find new peeks of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball
Currently, the one known pursued alum that hasn’t been secured is Judy Reyes, who played Turk’s wife Carla for the first eight seasons but has the distinction of not making any sort of appearance in the ninth. She’s currently a series regular on High Potential, the network’s biggest scripted hit of last season, however arrangements are being discussed that would allow her to do both. Creator Bill Lawrence developed the new season and executive produces, leaving showrunner duties to show alums Tim Hobert, previously writer, executive producer, and consulting producer and Aseem Batra, previously a writer and story editor, and executive producers. Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer executive produce on behalf of Lawrence’s production company, Doozer. Lawrence is already balancing Apple TV+ series Shrinking, Bad Monkey, and the revamped Ted Lasso, making his stepping back here understandable.
Lawrence’s latest statement, relishing the pickup, reads “Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.” The creator has been chatting up a Scrubs revival for a couple of years, saying in October “We’ve been talking about a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo [of a revival and a reboot]. A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot. But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people that go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it’s a calling. There’s no cliché ‘rich doctors playing golf’ — that’s not what it is anymore. So I think that, no matter what it is, it would be a giant mistake not to do as a combo of those two things.”
The things that have changed in 15 years goes deeper, as Lawrence has also described. “My hope would be that we establish where everybody from [the original show] is, whether they’re still with us at the hospital or notz The only bummer [about doing the revival], obviously, is that Sam Lloyd was such a huge part of the show, and he passed on [in 2020].” But other than Lloyd, you can expect to see all your favorites back in some capacity.” Most recently he said with a bit of a chuckle “The hardest part is that Zach and Donald have aged. People still have that affinity, and love, for that goofy youthfulness — it’s why the T-Mobile commercials work so well. But if I saw two guys in their late 40s/early 50s doing ‘World’s Most Giant Doctor,’ and carrying each other around all the time, I would go, ‘What the f–k is going on,’ you know? To see what that [friendship] looks like at their age, and [take] a comedic look at what medicine has become since those kids started out as interns, and see how our people would look at it, deal with it, and try to remain optimistic,” is their main objective. “I will tell you that the people I based the original characters on, like the real JD [Dr. Jonathan Doris], is still the medical advisor on the show, and still a cardiologist and a heart surgeon in L.A.,” Lawrence revealed. “But the real Elliot [Doris’ wife, Dr. Dolly Klock] is no longer in medicine because it got to be too much for her, and she wanted to do other things that are equally as philanthropic. She does this education thing for adolescents and kids now. So, to look at how the system not only changed, but how it has beaten some of these people down, and how they retain their optimism with a new wave of young characters, has really been fun.”
Personally I think the way the Janitor walked away in his cameo (because The Middle began that season for Neil Flynn) will either have him far enough away that he won’t return, or a supernatural sense will draw him back. Whether he’s still a janitor? Who knows how they’ll tackle that. Dr. Kelso (Ken Jenkins) better be so deep into retirement he’s too far away to even be tempted to come back. John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox? Oh they have to be in pursuit. To have Perry and JD back together again would be a crime to pass up. Looking forward to the fresh blood.
The CW 'Powerpuff' Pilot Leaked, Got Plugged
Over 26 years later and the Powerpuff Girls seem to still be having big days, and Thursday was definitely that. First, their part in the Jellystone! “Crisis on Infinite Mirths” crossover made Mojo Jojo (voiced once again by Roger L. Jackson) a main character and half of maybe the greatest crossover crackship in all of cartoons while also getting fully v…
