Seth Rollins Reveals 'Captain America: Brave New World' Role Cut, A Casualty Of Rewrites, Reshoots
The WWE wrestler has been slithered out of the Serpent Society
We’re just about a month away from the release of the next film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: Brave New World, starring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson in his first full live action appearance bearing the Captain America mantle, and Harrison Ford in his debut as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, now President of the United States. As a Marvel film releasing February 14, it’s been present in many a 2025 Movie Previews, but WWE superstar Seth Rollins has revealed that he will not be seen. His role, reportedly as a Serpent Society member was cut, lost to the extensive rewrites of the script and subsequent reshoots. This comes after debunking that he was one of the mercenaries in the trailer released at D23 Brazil in November.
Rollins confirmed the news in an interview with Chris Van Vliet. “I wish it the best, but I am not a part of that film,” he said “Does my NDA still apply if I’m not on the film anymore?” he continued. “Truth be told, any answer I gave you would only be my opinion on it. The script went through a lot of rewrites and reshoots and so what I was there to do... Essentially my role got either repurposed or completely erased. I did do a bit of an audition to possibly pop into another role I believe, or the repurposing of my role. I’m not exactly sure on what it was. But they ended up going in a different direction with it. My understanding is there was just a lot of rewrites and a lot of reshoots. They know they’ve got a finished product that hopefully they’re happy with, and hopefully it’s successful. But it will be sans Seth Rollins.”
While reshoots and rewrites are common, it’s been known publicly since May that there would be reshoots significant enough to incorporate a whole character, namely Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder. Van Vliet then asked about that trailer and the eyes. Rollins responded insisting: "You could just see his eyeballs. I am not in the movie.” He added “I will say unequivocally I am not in the film. I do not want anybody to go to the film thinking, oh I’m here to see Seth Rollins. There might be two people who would do that, but I don’t want those two people to waste their time. I don’t want to misinform anybody. I don’t want to lead anybody astray. I am not in the film. It should be a good one. Marvel does a great job.”
ScreenRant’s exclusive preview features Sam, armed with his shield, with Danny Ramirez's Joaquin Torres as they’re bathed in a red light, exploring some sort of workshop. Said D23 Brazil trailer opens with Sam visiting super soldier Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) in jail. He’s jumpsuited up as it cuts to the coordinated attack of President Ross that he had no control over. There are five reported shooters. Missiles are fired, and the “You’re not Steve Rogers” scene plays out, which has become a prominent staple of the marketing. We see the new suit in action against soldiers. Something is off, President Ross is captured and visibly turning. The call from the teaser we know is from Samuel Sterns aka The Leader is in here too. Sam is arrested, and President Ross transforms into Red Hulk in the middle of a press conference.
