WWE's Seth Rollins Wrestles With Wilson In 'Captain America: New World Order'
Not quite Jake the Snake Roberts, but he'll fit right in
WWE wrestler Seth Rollins has joined the cast of Captain America: New World Order. He was spotted on set and photographed by Christopher Oquendo in garb that makes it very apparent he’s going to be playing a member of the Serpent Society.
Captain America: New World Order is the fourth Captain America movie, but the first since Sam Wilson, formerly Falcon, took up the mantle at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, after Steve Rogers bequeathed his shield to him at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Rollins joins the likes of Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly, who return from that series as presumed next Falcon Joaquin Torres and supersoldier Isaiah Bradley. The cast also includes Harrison Ford, who takes over as Gen. Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from the late William Hurt. Ross’s daughter Betty, played by Liv Tyler, is finally making her first appearance since The Incredible Hulk, as is Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns, now fully transformed into The Leader. Shira Haas is appearing as Sabra, and Xosha Roquemore in an undisclosed role.
Rollins is certainly far from the only wrestler in comic book adaptations, from Dave Bautista as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam and Krypto the Superdog in DC League of Super Pets (and Black Adam) to John Cena as Peacemaker starting with The Suicide Squad, Baron Draxum in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Rocksteady in Mutant Mayhem, a role previously played by Shamus in Out of the Shadows. But it still remains to be seen how high-ranking his character is. Captain America: New World Order is scheduled to be released on May 3, 2024 as Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues.
