Sony’s Live-Action 'Legend of Zelda' Sails Away To Old 'Secret Wars' Slot
Now that’s an ocarina’s worth of time to wait
Wake the wind, we have another video game movie delay. Sony has sent its live action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda on a new adventure: to become a summer blockbuster. Originally set in March for March 26, 2027, it will now open 6 weeks later, on May 7.
Nintendo representative director and fellow Shigeru Miyamoto, who produces the feature alongside Avi Arad made the announcement on Twitter on Monday, June 9, disclosed the film’s delay was for production reasons as it needed a few more weeks in the hothouse to get done. “This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it,” he explained.
‘Legend of Zelda’ Live-Action Movie Journeys To March 2027 Release Date
During Thursday’s Nintendo Direct, the new app Nintendo Today! was announced, released shortly after the presentation. It brings anyone with a Nintendo Account customized daily updates, whether it's news about the Nintendo Switch 2 system, video games and characters, or videos and comic strips, it’s fun. Or at least I’d hope so, I feel weird about makin…
May 7, 2027 might sound rather familiar, as it was the former slot of Avengers: Secret Wars. That was until Disney moved it to December 17, 2027 this time last month. They had moved Avengers: Doomsday from May 1, 2026 to December 18 at the same time, slotting The Devil Wears Prada 2 to that slot, but had yet to fill the vacated Secret Wars date with something of their own. The Legend of Zelda leaves behind Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, something I hope to catch you up on soon, as well as Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which will be in its second week against now solely the latter.
The Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball is directing the film from Nintendo and Arad Productions, while he also produces with Joe Hartwick Jr. under their Oddball Entertainment banner. The game franchise franchise began with the initial game of the same name in 1986, about Link, the elf-like warrior of the Hylian race who sets out to defeat the evil Ganon to rescue the princess Zelda of Hyrule. The film’s initial announcement came just days after a Street Fighter movie was taken off the schedule, deemed unable to make the March 20, 2026 date it was originally scheduled for.
Marvel Studios Flags Fourth Film For 2028
So much for scaling back. After what will be two years with two films each, one of which isn’t theirs to boast and the other unannounced but coming between Avengers films in 2026 and 2027, Disney has planted a fourth flag for a Marvel Studios film in 2028. Already having dates in February, March, and November, this new flag has been set up for December …
