'Star Trek' Takes 'Starfleet Academy' On Its First SDCC Field Trip With 'Strange New Worlds'
Boldly going back to Hall H with a lighter crew
Even with no Marvel nor DC, San Diego Comic-Con will still manage to book enough big panels that sufficiently fill the void. Even Ketchup Entertainment nabbed one for Coyote vs. Acme. But even in the chaos of the Paramount-Skydance merger, CBS Studios made sure Star Trek, with its lighter show load of Strange New Worlds and the upcoming Starfleet Academy, would not be missing out. They’re back in Hall H on Saturday, July 26 from 3:30-5:00 PM Eastern, which local time is 12:30-2:00 PM Pacific.
This year’s panel will be moderated by Robert Picardo, who through Starfleet Academy will be returning to the EMH Doctor role in live-action for the first time since Voyager ended in 2001, and most recently appeared in the role on the animated series Prodigy. Both segments are promising exclusive first looks and surprises, along with the Q&A and it starts off with Strange New Worlds. Attending cast include Anson Mount who plays Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn aka Number One Una Chin-Riley, Ethan Peck aka Science Officer Spock, Jess Bush aka Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong aka La’an Noonien-Singh, and Paul Wesley aka James T. Kirk. Executive producers and co-showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, and executive producer Alex Kurtzman.
'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Cheers The Returns Of Tig Notaro And Robert Picardo
Oh wow, covering the Star Trek Universe panel in Hall H of San Diego Comic-Con is going to be quite the trek in itself. We’ll start off with Starfleet Academy, whose casting of actor, comedian, writer, and Bob Hearts Abishola creator Gina Yashere as an instructor broke before the panel, but provided some major surprises of familiar faces during it.
Last year, Starfleet Academy had just cast its cadets, and were all confirmed at the panel. Now Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins and Bella Shepard will be joining Picardo and Holly Hunter, as well as Kurtzman and his co-showrunner Noga Landau. It is extremely likely that not only will character name reveals happen here, as well as a teaser trailer and a specific premiere window. We have had nothing but the casting news, including something for Becky Lynch of the WWE and a guest gig for Tatiana Maslany, and the only character names revealed were those of returning characters.
What surprises might be in store? Well, last year, it was revealed that Lower Decks star and Starfleet Academy writer Tawny Newsome was teaming with Justin Simien (who was moderator last year) for a live action comedy series. We could be getting pickup news on that (or not) as part of a look into the broader development pipeline, announcing new series after seeing four end.

Well, we’re officially a week over halfway through 2025, and it seems Hulu and Disney+ were ready to show off in bulk what they have for the rest of the year. While it’s not quite everything, as you won’t find new peeks of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball
