Steven Yeun, Voice Of First Avatar Wan, Joins Older Gaang 'Avatar' Film
Wan is the onliest character that he should be
There’s like, no way they’ve forgotten, right? Steven Yeun, who voiced the original Avatar Wan in the Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel series The Legend of Korra, has joined the franchise’s upcoming animated film from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies starring Aang and his group of friends as young adults.
Variety made the confirmation on Thursday, but Yeun’s name was found on a copyright listing for the film back in October. Neither know who he’s playing, as it’s being kept under wraps, but if he is back as Wan, let’s go over who he is. The story of Wan the first Avatar was told over two second season Korra episodes, “Beginnings” parts 1 and 2. A bit of a scoundrel in an oppressive regime, his people are granted for bending powers for defense. But he’s banished when he violates in-city bending getting food for friends. He befriends the spirits, ultimately deceived by Vaatu, the embodiment of evil stuck in a battle with Raava, the force of good, to free him. Wan then teams up with to stop Vaatu, but it ultimately requires him to learn the other elements. When they physically merge at Harmonic Convergence, that’s how the Avatar was born, and Wan fought against evil to his dying breath. Upon one Avatar’s death, Raava carries the skills and spirits of all predecessors to a newborn host. The story was told deep in Korra’s subconscious while going through healing.
