'Sweet Tooth' Has Been Renewed For A Third And Final Season By Netflix
The news comes six days after its long-awaited second season premiere
Just about a week after the long awaited second season of the Netflix series Sweet Tooth, its fans get some bittersweet news. The series has been renewed for a third and final season.
Apparently, this third season was filmed back-to-back with the second, and is the culprit for why it took so long to get out. It was done in Auckland, New Zealand and has already wrapped. Series showrunner Jim Mickle had been holding onto this news for a while. In describing the circumstances, Mickle remarked it’s both the story he thought would be told, taking on its own life in ways that still fit. He continued “At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be. The crew and cast bring so much depth and point of view to who the characters are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going.”
Season 3 is an Arctic-set story with new adventures where Gus will see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see before. Mickle hopes it will be a satisfying conclusion to the tale. Its cast has several new series regulars, promoting Rosalind Chao (Zhang) and Amy Seimetz (Birdie) while new cast members cast as series regulars are Cara Gee (The Expanse) and newcomer Avazhan Dalabayeva (Nuka). The second season premiered on April 27 and in its first four days of release saw 48.3 million hours viewed.
Based on the DC comic book series by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth sees Gus, a part deer, part boy hybrid leave his home in the forest to find the outside world devastated by an apocalyptic event. He joins a ragtag family of humans and animal-children hybrids similar to him looking for answers about the new world and the mystery behind his hybrid origins. Series such as Big Mouth and You have also seen their final seasons announced coming after the ones scheduled for or have been released this year.
