‘Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Reveals Its Sketchy Opening Sequence At San Diego Comic-Con
A five minute sneak-peek was also released
Welcome welcome one and all! It’s San Diego Comic-Con time again! I’ll do my best to cover everything I want to, especially Marvel, DC, Star Trek and Doctor Who this weekend. It’s why I got my Deadpool and Wolverine viewing out of the way early. An hour into my screening was the panel for the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, featuring stars Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon, who voice Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael, executive producers and showrunners Chris Yost and Alan Wan, and Alanna Ubach, the voice of Bishop. The 12-episode first season of the bridge between last year’s Mutant Mayhem film and its 2026 sequel premieres on August 9 on Paramount+.
Ubach told the Comic-Con crowd “It’s an honor to not only be playing a female antagonist, but to be asked to be a part of something that is such a pop culture phenomenon and something that has had so much staying power for the past 40 years,” saying that she’d been looking for villain roles thanks to her son, Thomas, as villains are the archetype he is most intrigued by. “I’m really stoked to be playing, finally, a bad lady. I hope you dig it, little guy.” His birthday happened to be Thursday, and got good wishes from the audience. “We’ll never be able to top that, buddy,” she quipped.
The panel featured a 5-minute sneak preview that saw Bishop sicc her Mechazoids (or is it Megazoids? The YouTube upload used that spelling) on the Turtles for the first time, showing how she’ll do anything in order to handle the mutant problem, straight up calling for their extermination. The clip also reveals that Rod, the rich but lazy superfan of the Turtles voiced by Pete Davidson, is in cahoots with her. Maybe he funds the production of the Mechazoids. Abbey, Brown, Cantu and Noon also selected their own individual clips to showcase their characters’ respective journeys, but that was probably too much to reveal on top of it so it might be a bit before we actually see what they chose. Ayo Edebiri also returns to voice April O’Neil, with other new characters including Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Pigeon Pete, Timothy Olyphant as Goldfin, Jillian Bell as Lee the Eel, and Danny Trejo as Mustang Sally, as previously reported. And still nothing on what’s happening with Splinter. The clip that was released to the public can be watched below.
Yost recalled conceptualizing the series with executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg “When we first heard talking about the series, we sit down with Seth and Evan and said, ‘What can we do different? It can not be more of the same.’ The idea of splitting the Turtles up came up — really digging into their characters and seeing what they’re made of when they’re not with their brothers. It puts them in a situation where they have to kind of stretch and grow and be something they’ve never necessarily had to be before. Each one of them has to change a little bit over the course of the adventure.”
And then there’s the intro sequence, featuring an instrumental-only theme song and presenting the Turtles as notebook sketches as they face their isolated circumstances. Metalhead is probably acknowledged for the first time by its presence here. It is composed by Emmy-nominated composer Matt Mahaffey, whose work includes the previous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, its movie, and Sanjay and Craig before that. Check it out below and when Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premieres on August 9 on Paramount+.
