'The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie' Sneak Peek Released Before Annecy Premiere
Oui oui, Porky and Daffy are in the house and ready to be STARS!
Warner Bros. continues to be obstinate about Coyote vs. Acme, but instead of relitigating that again, we have positives to focus on. The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is this week, and it’s here that both Warner Bros. and Disney have grown accustomed to sharing their television animation slates, and showcasing their feature animation slates. And for Warner Bros., that includes the Looney Tunes film they were willing to sell distribution for, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which premieres at the festival tomorrow. Monday saw a sneak peek released, strangely on a TV PR account even with the move to theatrical being established for months at this point.
While the film does not have any sort of release date announced yet, the Pete Browngardt-directed film sees Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both voiced by Eric Bauza) discovering a looming alien invasion, forcing them to do anything they can to help save the world. The preview scene sees them ready their home for inspection in the easiest most convenient ways possible, like painting grass a livelier green or putting a pizza box to cover a broken step. They set yard waste aflame with a high-power flamethrower. Their shoddy work can barely stand, even Porky’s putting on the best smile he can over a pile of nerves as the inspector arrives. But as she points out, there’s a gaping hole in the roof, seemingly brought on by either nuclear waste or an acid of a similar color. The clip ends on our heroes’ panic.
'Coyote Vs. Acme' Star Will Forte Releases Statement To Cast And Crew Following Apparent Write-Off
The Day the Earth Blew Up is the first fully-animated theatrical Looney Tunes film with 100% new material, as all others previous only had new material bookending previously-existing shorts compiled. It is written by Kevin Costello, and was originally announced in September 2021 for Cartoon Network’s ACME Night and Max, with two of the projects it would later be dropped with: Did I Do That To The Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story, now known as Urkel Saves Santa: The Movie! and Merry Little Batman. In August 2022, the new Warner Bros. Discovery regime halted development on them, Batman: Caped Crusader, The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie, and a second Looney Tunes film, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, forcing all of them to be shopped. Both Merry Little Batman and Urkel Saves Santa were released in time for the 2023 holiday season through Amazon Prime Video and an unceremonious home video release respectively. The streamer also rescued Caped Crusader beforehand, now readying it for an August 1 premiere, and announced a Bat-Family spinoff series when picking up Merry Little Batman. While the inspector’s voice hasn’t been confirmed, the two other cast members that have are Candi Milo as Petunia Pig and Peter MacNicol as The Invader.
