'Coyote Vs. Acme' Star Will Forte Releases Statement To Cast And Crew Following Apparent Write-Off
On a very special episode of Where In The World Is 'Coyote Vs. Acme'?
It’s been nearly a week since Warner Bros. Discovery officially disclosed their cruel write-off of Coyote vs. Acme. Though not by name and lumped in with other projects to amount to about $115 million. And it sucks. It truly truly sucks. But now, Will Forte, who played Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer, tweeted for the first time in two months his first statement about the whole ordeal and posted to Instagram the same for the first time since October. He only has ~6800 tweets and 42 Instagram posts in 15 years so he’s not very online much. His “lateness” is very much excused.
The Saturday Night Live alum and The Last Man on Earth star wrote this message out to his cast and crew:
To the Cast and Crew of Coyote Vs Acme --
I know that a lot of you haven’t gotten a chance to see our movie. And sadly, it’s a looking like you never will.
When I first heard that our movie was getting “deleted”, I hadn’t seen it yet. So I was thinking what everyone else must have been thinking: this thing must be a hunk of junk. But then I saw it. And it’s incredible.
Super funny throughout, visually stunning, sweet, sincere, and emotionally resonant in a very warmed way. As the credits rolled, I just sat there thinking how lucky I was to be part of something so special. That quickly turned to confusion and frustration. This was the movie they’re not going to release?”
“Look, when it comes to Hollywood business stuff, I don’t know shit about shit. Even when a movie tests very well (like ours), there’s no guarantee that it’s gonna be a hit,” he added. “And at the end of the day, the people who paid for this movie can obviously do whatever they want with it. It doesn’t mean I have to like it (I fucking hate it). Or agree with it. And it doesn’t mean that this movie is anything less than magnificent.”
You would be so proud of it -- a movie that should be seen, but won’t. Please know that all the years and years of hard work, dedication, and love that you put into this movie shows in every frame.
Forte signed off the multi-page with a “That’s All Folks!”. As far as Forte’s recent work that has been released, he’s returned to Clone High for both of its ordered seasons, starred in Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken and Strays, appeared as Ben Scotti of Scotti Bros. Records in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and has Thelma the Unicorn and the Pixar series Win or Lose coming up this year. It’s also very much worth noting that in the wake of The Wrap’s piece warning of the campaign efforts being for naught, even more from the film was shared, including the casting of actors Tone Bell and Martha Kelly in undisclosed roles. Even through all of this, none of the human live-action characters’ names were revealed.
Coyote vs. Acme is directed by Dave Green and starring Eric Bauza as Wile E. Coyote and at least several other Looney Tunes characters, with John Cena as Acme’s lawyer, Bell, Kelly, P.J. Byrne and Lana Condor. It was written by Samy Burch, who had done the story with James Gunn (now DC Studios co-CEO) and Jeremy Slater.
