'The Thundermans' Spinoff Episode Count (Thus Far) Revealed
Bring on the thunder of 20+ episode seasons again
In making the new follow-up series for The Thundermans, star, executive producer and director Kira Kosarin has shared a lot. Nothing big plot wise of course, but plenty of photos and videos of her and her experiences. As the streaming bubble pops, many viewers have grown frustrated with short seasons and long wait times. I always say “look to Disney Channel and Nickelodeon” because they’re still doing orders in the episode count range of 20s to 30. After all, Fairly OddParents: A New Wish (now streaming its first ten episodes on Netflix) had a 20-episode first season, and Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is confirmed for 21. Now Kosarin is assuring that the new Thundermans series will even go beyond that.
Kosarin posted to her Instagram a collection of photos (maybe some repeats, but NBD) with a caption that read “22 episodes down… in 3 months… magical chaos 💃🏻⚡️thundermans spinoff on the way, official title & release date coming soon-ish 🙊k back to work 🫡💙” That’s right, 22 episodes down and a “back to work”? That’s definitely a 22+ right there. Expect it to be around 26. And she’s already getting fans hyped for the announcements of the official title and release date. Fantastic. Despite being announced as a Nickelodeon/Paramount+ share, it’s clearly Nickelodeon-forward, Nickelodeon-minded. All Nickelodeon Paramount+ originals have been 13s, 20s, or 26s…at least at one point. That caveat is iCarly, which had a 13-episode first season before conforming to the 10s of the (older?) adult-aimed series. The Treks, the Sheridans, all of em. The Really Loud House, which was originally announced for the streamer, has 20s too.
At the end of August, a trademark for the title The Thundermans Undercover was found applied for. By mid-September, episodes 9 and 10 were filming. Over two months later, we’re here. The series will Kosarin as Phoebe, Jack Griffo as Max, and Maya Le Clark as Chloe Thunderman as they are sent undercover to handle a new threat in the seaside town of Secret Shores, also helping to train Chloe in superheroing. It seems Chloe will infiltrate the school the threat seems to be coming from, and form a bond with two classmates while they investigate the suspicious activity from within, though her new friends will not know about her powers. The increasing danger of the threat forces the Thunderman trio to stay put indefinitely. Due to this, the now adult-aged twins are now in charge of raising their younger sister.
The new series is executive produced by original series creator Jed Spingarn, Sean W. Cunningham & Marc Dworkin. Kosarin and Griffo continue to be executive producers as they had so ascended for the movie. Production of the series for Nickelodeon Studios is overseen by Shauna Phelan, who is Head of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness’s Live-Action division. Brian Banks is Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production.
