Thirteen And Yaz Continue 'Doctor Who' Audio Adventures With 'The Return Of The Doctor' In September
After vampires, Yaz and Thirteen are about to encounter armadillo people on their next audio adventure
It was a year ago that it was announced that Big Finish’s Doctor Who audio dramas would expand to begin The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures, starring Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker and her companion Yasmin Khan, played by Mandip Gill. These bimonthly releases began this week with “Vampire Weekend”, and right away, Big Finish is ready to start hyping the second of twelve adventures, the far more generically-titled “The Return of the Doctor”.
In the story written by Rory Thomas-Howes in his Big Finish debut, Yaz once again realizes that traveling through time and space can have unintended consequences. The duo must set right what has gone wrong after departing the planet Velazaar, but it will stretch their partnership to its limit. The full synopsis reads “Having saved the peaceful Zaarians from an evil alien threat, the Doctor and Yaz sail off to their next adventure. Only this time, Yaz wonders if they’re moving on, or running away. Convincing a grudging Doctor to return to the planet, they are shocked to find the Zaarians in turmoil. What did the Doctor do? Why is the city in ruins? And what’s that voice in Yaz’s head…?” Guest stars are Belinda Stewart-Wilson as Vashir, Charlie Kelly as Azaan, Will Kirk as Talpa, and Stephan Bessant as Taav. Thirteenth Doctor And Yaz Get A Goddamn Bite For Their First Audio Adventure
It’s not going to be a normal weekend for the first Doctor Who audio dramas to star Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker and her companion Yasmin Khan, played by Mandip Gill. Big Finish, the producer of the franchise’s audio dramas, has announced story details for the first of
Thomas-Howes expressed great excitement, saying: “As a lifelong Doctor Who fan, it’s been such a thrill to write for the Doctor herself! Writing for Jodie, Mandip and all the incredible actors in this story was a dream come true, and I’m so grateful to Big Finish for this amazing opportunity. In ‘The Return of the Doctor’, I wanted to explore the strength of the friendship between the Doctor and Yaz, and also confront the distance the Doctor places between her, her companions and the universe she’s so often saved. Expect a planet of desert-dwelling armadillo people, a mysterious whisper, a spaceship full of secrets, and an order for the Doctor’s capture… dead or alive!”
Whittaker, who was the incumbent Doctor from Christmas 2017 to October 2022, recently made her onscreen return in the recent season finale “The Reality War” thanks to a temporal incursion that occurred when the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, sacrificed his life to bring Poppy, who would ultimately be Belinda (Varada Sethu)’s real daughter, back into the main reality. This allowed the two incarnations to meet and she was urged to be more open with Yaz. Whittaker and Gill’s behind-the-scenes interview about their audio return can be watched below.
